We are unlucky to have these lots as the source of journalism in Nigeria when they keep working hard everyday to make a mess of the noble profession.

I have today signed the NIMC Act 2026 into law.
For nearly twenty years, Nigeria’s identity system operated under a law written for a different era. That era is over.
This new Act gives our nation a modern, secure and digital identity framework fit for the Nigeria we are building, a Nigeria on the path to becoming a one-trillion-dollar economy.
BREAKING: The Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja has vacated its earlier judgment which directed INEC to register the NDC as a political party.
Justice Isah Dashen, the presiding judge, held that the earlier judgment was constitutionally defective as it was delivered without hearing from all interested parties.
The ruling follows an application filed by the Peace Movement Party (PMP), where it argued that NDC’s registration was based on a logo it had previously submitted to INEC before the commencement of the suit.
According to the judge, all relevant parties must be heard before any substantive decision can be made in the matter.
Consequently, the court ordered that the substantive suit should begin afresh, with INEC, the PMP, and the NDC as parties to the case.
Justice Dashen further ruled that the status quo be restored to what it was before the December 2025 judgment, pending the determination of the substantive suit.
Counsel to the applicant, Chikezie Ekeocha, told journalists that the PMP approached the court after discovering that NDC’s registration was based on a logo it had previously submitted to INEC before the commencement of the suit.
According to Ekeocha, the court agreed that the applicant’s rights had been affected and consequently vacated the earlier judgment, which directed the registration of NDC as a political party.
NPF CLARIFIES FALSE BANDITRY NARRATIVE IN VIRAL KATSINA VIDEO, REAFFIRMS PARTNERSHIP WITH COMMUNITY SECURITY VOLUNTEERS
The Nigeria Police Force categorically disclaims the false and misleading narrative accompanying a viral video circulating on social media which alleges that a uniformed police officer was seen interacting with armed bandits in Katsina State.
For the avoidance of doubt, the individuals featured in the video are not bandits. They are duly recognized members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) and registered hunters who are actively supporting ongoing security operations in collaboration with security agencies in Musawa and Matazu Local Government Areas of Katsina State.
The video captured a routine interaction between a police officer and these security volunteers as they proceeded to a designated operational area in support of efforts to combat criminality and enhance public safety. Any claim suggesting otherwise is entirely false, malicious, and intended to mislead the public.
The Nigeria Police Force strongly condemns the deliberate distortion of facts and the circulation of misinformation capable of causing public anxiety, undermining confidence in security institutions, and frustrating ongoing security operations.
Members of the public are urged to disregard the misleading claims attached to the video and rely only on information disseminated through official channels of the Nigeria Police Force and other authorized government sources.
The Force warns individuals and groups engaged in the creation, publication, or dissemination of false information capable of prejudicing public peace and security to desist immediately, as appropriate legal action may be taken against violators.
The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to working with legitimate community-based security stakeholders and other relevant partners in the collective effort to protect lives, safeguard communities, and combat crime across the country.

Senate Passes State Police Bill, Gives Governors Power to Appoint Commissioners
The Senate has passed a constitutional amendment bill seeking to establish state police across Nigeria, a significant step in efforts to decentralise policing and tackle rising insecurity nationwide.
The bill was approved on Wednesday after a clause-by-clause review and a manual voting process in which more than two-thirds of senators voted in support. Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced its passage following the presentation of a report by the Senate Committee on the Review of the Constitution, chaired by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin.
The proposed legislation introduces a state policing system that will operate alongside the existing federal police structure, ending the Federal Government’s exclusive control over policing.
Under the bill, each state police service will be headed by a Commissioner of Police appointed by the governor and confirmed by the State House of Assembly, while the federal police will remain under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police.
The amendment also allows governors to issue lawful written directives on public safety and order within their states. To prevent abuse, the bill includes safeguards prohibiting state police from arresting, detaining, investigating, or targeting individuals, political parties, or groups solely for criticising the government, except in accordance with the law.
The bill is regarded as one of the most significant constitutional reforms of the 10th National Assembly. However, it must still secure the approval of state Houses of Assembly and complete other constitutional requirements before becoming law.
President Tinubu has sent a letter to the Senate requesting the confirmation of the appointment of Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye Ekiti in Ekiti State, as a non-career ambassador.
