Worse yet, they are not cheap enough to justify their lack of capability nor survivable enough to justify their cost. We tried to achieve affordable mass and got unaffordable and less production capacity per design than the Fort Worth F-35 line.

@7N39AP Why not, the XM8 Thunderbolt weighs only 20 tonnes ish with the level 2 armor, it already fits four guys in the back. If it's that problematic, someone already mentioned the use of composite chassis like BAE SEP and ACAVP. SEP itself weighs like 17t vs CV90 hull at roughly 26t.

@Tomcat1033 @DoctorSantander Here's a suggestion/solution, put a fake fanblade that completely covers the actual turbine, F/A-18E/F Super Hornet does it and it basically acts as some kind of "internal" S-duct without having the geometry penalty of actual S-duct. It works just as good.

@7N39AP even for hull to hull basis. So the question does have to be asked if protection against 120-125mm direct hit is a relevant enough threat to up armor IFV to such a point that you are willing to sacrifice your tactical, strategic, and theater mobility, and obviously cost. 4/end

@7N39AP most modern IFV armors are rated to about 30mm, which also reasonably protects against most battlefield threats, while the jump to MBT armor that protects against 120-125mm APFSDS is substantial enough to make MBT, a volumetrically much smaller vehicle, heavier & costs more- 3/n

@Fighterman_FFRC here is people in general has gotten worse at understanding shit so the moment you point out it has SOME, A COUPLE, Chinese aircraft specific details, people generally ASSUMES it's a Chinese inspired jet, especially since it's a stealthy canard plane, while it's actually X-36 2/2

@Fighterman_FFRC it's not accidental, but it's not exactly with purpose either. Not all J-20 has that stripes on the DSI, and PA has often taking greebling features from all kinds of aircraft without making sense as long as it looks good(like the X-02S door on top of the nacelles. The issue- 1/2

@CourierWD40 @milkalade Also no, the FA-36 is actually a legacy design, originally featured in Ace Combat 3 as XFA-36 Game, a fictional design based off the McDonnell Douglas X-36 tailless fighter agility research aircraft. There's some things that changes from then to now, but it's the same aircraft.
