Side products + free tools generate millions of visits every month for SaaS businesses

So I made a directory of 425 of them (link below), here are 8 things I found:

1/ Canva generates over 9m visits/mo from free tools - more than all the other side products I found, combined

2/ For some businesses, their side products drive more traffic than their core domain (e.g. Toptal, Pallyy)

3/ No fancy names - the names of most tools are optimized for keywords, not branding (e.g. Keyword Generator, Image Caption Generator)

4/ The majority of tools are either: generators, small product features, or "checkers", with a tail of templates, converters, downloaders + more

5/ Your side product should be super simple, but to benefit from long-term traffic you should be adding FAQs, and descriptions (look at VEED's pages)

6/ 94% of the tools I found were hosted on sub-directories e.g. .com/sideproduct, probably because this gives the best SEO boost

7/ Your side products can have side products if you choose wisely - variations of converters or through localization

8/ Buying side products is a thing - Viral Post Generator and Twemex (both Tweet Hunter), Tomato Timer (Toptal), Schedule Twitter Threads (Pallyy)
