Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! May humankind find kindness towards all animals in 2021 and during all the coming years. We are not alone on this Earth. We need to love and respect all living beings who share the Earth with us.
OFI & Forestry Dept rangers rescue a wild adult male #orangutan we name “Bengaris”. He has been raiding villagers’ fruit trees & they give an ultimatum, “Take him or we will not be responsible for what happens.” We rescue him;there is no real forest in vicinity.
Palm oil is found in 50% of all consumer products, but it has a huge carbon footprint. Synthetic alternatives could help. https://t.co/U9sicPgVIL via @business
Sioux Spiritual Leader Arvol Looking Horse
bestowed a Lakota name upon Greta Thunberg:
“Maphiyata Echiyatan Hin Win,”
which means
“Woman Who Came from the Heavens.”
Former tribal chairman Jesse Taken Alive told Thunberg:
“You have Awakened the World. We Stand with You.”
In case anybody has been wondering what I have been doing recently, here is a compressed video of OFI's latest #orangutan release. Three adolescent males were released into the wild some days ago. Interestingly, they waited for each other and one of them enjoyed the water.
Just to be absolutely clear. I have nothing against the concept of "sustainable #palmoil" except that it barely exists in the real world no matter what anyone claims. A few companies are trying to be truly "sustainable" but they are not yet there. The #orangutans are waiting.
I, too, pray for sustainable #palmoil but until palmoil is truly grown in honest sustainable ways, I personally will not consume or use it. And let's not forget the role timber estates for pulp&paper have played in the #deforestation of #Borneo.

In 2019, an orangutan emoji will be introduced for the first time. How ironic that as we welcome them into our digital world, we disregard their plight in the real world. Unless we act now, the only way future generations will see these magnificent creatures is on their keyboard.
Today would have been Dian Fossey’s 87th birthday. Mountain gorillas still exist today because of Dian’s courage and persistence. She NEVER wavered in her commitment to the gorillas – even in the face of significant challenges. https://t.co/3pgkA43Zqa
Nothing is ever simple, it seems, Nonetheless, when all is said and done, planting trees and protecting forests are crucially important actions in combating #climatechange everywhere and certainly necessary for saving #orangutan habitat in Borneo.
