Reditus Space - The world’s first reusable satellites

[Stef Crum @StefReditus]

We finished ENOS! 🚨🚨

ENOS is currently on its way toward Vandenberg Space Force Base for Launch later this Fall. It will orbit for approximately 2 months, before initiating its reentry that ends with a splashdown off the coast of Florida, where the satellite will be recovered.

ENOS is built for reusability, and will be the first reusable satellite ever! 🚀

@BenSchleuniger @OrbitalOps_ @ReditusSpace Hell yeah!🫡

[Stef Crum @StefReditus]

Awesome! Great stuff @BenSchleuniger and the @OrbitalOps_ team!!🚀

[Payload 🚀 @payloadspace]

The C-130 Hercules aircraft and variants have hauled cargo, flown as gunships, and refueled military jets midair. Now, @OrbitalOps_ wants to do the same in space.

The startup won up to $35M from the Pentagon to fly a full-scale, in-orbit demo of Astraeus—its cryogenic-maneuvering vehicle.

“Space is now a contested environment,” Orbital Ops CEO Benjamin Schleuniger told @vicky_woodburn.

“We’re going into this new space age where there’s all these new orbits and all of these new ideas coming around…we just need more dynamic assets out there to transport things around.”

Read the full story for the inside look at Astraeus and why its capabilities are more timely than ever. ⬇️

New episode with Reditus Space out today and a very special one for sure. Big thank you to Boltline by @Stokespace for parterning with me on this video.

Reditus Space is building reusable satellites to enable a return economy from space that we are desperately lacking.

Stef Crum, CEO of @ReditusSpace joins me on The Just Rocket Science Show.

@StefReditus and I discuss ENOS and the case for reusable satellites. We get into the difference between surviving reentry and flying again, why research teams want alternatives to the International Space Station, and what it takes to make the return trip work as a business.

We also discuss Reditus's approach compared with Varda, SpaceX's Starfall, and why Stef chose Atlanta to build a reentry company.

Chapters 📌
00:00 Bring assets back
00:46 Why satellites should come home
03:43 The emerging reentry industry
05:51 How Reditus differs from Varda
07:50 Recovery, refurbishment, and reuse
11:02 Designing a satellite to fly again
13:29 Taking microgravity beyond the ISS
18:00 Boltline — episode sponsor
18:30 Finding the first customers
20:24 The business case for dedicated missions
23:19 Avoiding Space Shuttle-style refurbishment
25:19 FAA licensing and the road to reentry
30:08 SpaceX Starfall: competition or validation?
32:42 Why build a reentry company in Atlanta?
34:30 Launch access as a bottleneck

The White House:
"Novel in-space manufacturing and transportation capabilities will enable discovery and development of high-value materials and pharmaceuticals, unlock new space architectures, and sustain American technology leadership."

The next generation of advanced materials and pharmaceuticals are going to be manufactured in the absence of gravity! 🚀

Got some questions about ENOS a bunch, so answering them here.

ENOS is large, as in, a person could fit inside large. See a behind-the-scenes picture of it here for scale.

We built ENOS in 15 months from clean sheet, with a team of 12 FTEs, lean teams go fast!

Our team built our own TPS-solution in-house, it's called RHEA.

[Stef Crum @StefReditus]

@anu_bonth @ReditusSpace A couple, the payloads are primarily on the in-space-manufacturing side

[Stef Crum @StefReditus]

@anu_bonth @ReditusSpace Thank you! Few things more important than iteration speed!

[Stef Crum @StefReditus]

@Douglas__Gorman @ReditusSpace Yes it will! That's exactly right!

[Stef Crum @StefReditus]

Huge Milestone! 🚀 They grow up so fast 🥹

[Peter Walker @PeterJ_Walker]

There's never been a better time to build a startup based in atoms not bits.

Hardware here contains many sub-sectors, but robotics and defense-related hardware are the fastest growing.

Segment from SpaceX's S-1:
"we believe that over time each of these markets could eventually represent multi-trillion-dollar economic opportunities. These new markets include long haul point-to-point terrestrial travel, space tourism, in-orbit manufacturing, asteroid mining, energy production and manufacturing on the Moon and Mars, and passenger and cargo transportation to the Moon and Mars"

[Garry Tan @garrytan]

Today is the deadline to apply for YC Summer 2026.

If you're still hesitating: the companies that change the world don't wait until they're 100% ready. Applying is sometimes literally the first step.

For the first time since the 70s, people are now on the way to the Moon again! 🚀🚀
