#KateWinslet is a wonderfully gifted human being on the stage and in life. She advocates for the poor, and is a strong proponent of women aging gracefully. She refuses to be Photoshopped, so as such I've included her beautiful laugh lines. #TraditionalMedia#Watercolor#Portrait
Entrepreneurs: there is only 1 type of validation that matters for your startup, and that is customers who PAY. Nothing and no one else matters or makes a viable business. To ease any confusion, here is a list of things that do NOT matter when proving your business works:
4,500-year-old Egyptian dress, painstakingly reassembled from approximately 7,000 beads, was found in an undisturbed tomb in Giza, Egypt. The dress is believed to have belonged to a female contemporary of King Khufu (2589-2566 BC). Although the original strings had disintegrated over the years, the beads remained in their original positions, enabling an accurate reconstruction. While the color of the beads had faded, they were originally blue and turquoise. Initially thought to have been worn for a dancing ritual, the dress's heavy weight suggested otherwise after assembly. Archaeologists now speculate that it may have been worn during funerals.
August 8, 1982. A line drive foul ball hits a four year old boy in the head at Fenway. Jim Rice, realizing in a flash that it would take EMTs too long to arrive and cut through the crowd, sprang from the dugout and scooped up the boy.
He laid the boy gently on the dugout floor, where the Red Sox medical team began to treat him.
When the boy arrived at the hospital 30 minutes later, doctors said, without a doubt that Jim's prompt actions saved the boy's life. Jim returned to the game in a blood-stained uniform. A real badge of courage.
After visiting the boy in the hospital, and realizing the family was of modest means, he stopped by the business office and instructed that the bill be sent to him.
This is what a sports Hero looks like! ❤
Pale Blue Dot is a photo of Earth that was taken by the Voyager 1 space probe in 1990 from a distance of about 6 billion kilometers (3.7 billion miles) as it was leaving our solar system. This is what Carl Sagan said about the photo:
"Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor, and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every 'superstar,' every 'supreme leader,' every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there — on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand. It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.”
I did not expect this to take off. The name of the brand is TharaphyNY. The daughter runs the stall and she's an art student. Her Mom is from Burma and makes the shawls.
Their Etsy shop is up but doesn't have the shawls yet.

i’ve been struggling to put this into words for a while but i think a lot of this AI art craze comes down to these guys feeling the joy of being creative for the first time and mistaking it for something much deeper.
they’re putting out tv ads to push the anti drag bill & edited a photo from a daytime event I hosted into a dark club to better fit their narrative cause they rely on lies and deceit to push their agenda. disgusting to see them use images from my events in this way.
Just a heads-up - Midjourney's AI can now do hands correctly. Be extra critical of any political imagery (especially photography) you see online that is trying to incite a reaction.
I was colorizing trans photos and it reminded me of star athlete Mark Weston, who transitioned in 1936. It's as if he was erased from the history books. He was one of the world's top athletes and Britain's #1 women's shotputter for 6 years. His brother Harry was also trans!
