STATEMENT FROM SENATOR JAY MORRIS REGARDING COMMENTS IN
SENATE AND GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE HEARING TODAY
I want to assure the public that I did not use any profanity or any derogatory or pejorative term in referring to anyone in the audience at today’s Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee at the State Capitol. Audio obtained by a news organization in the room confirms this. I was frustrated when, as I was trying to answer questions from committee members, people in the audience directly behind me were continuing to comment and talk loudly enough so that it was hard for me to concentrate and answer questions. As a result, when my testimony was completed and I stood up, I said “you all need to shut up”, as those seated behind me had ignored admonitions by the Committee Chair. I never used any profanity or derogatory term, as the news-recorded audio proves. I did not know who the people sitting behind me were, but I have learned that some have involvement in political parties and should have known better than to falsely accuse me of things to make a political point. I do appreciate that no matter how much we as senators disagree, or how much I disagree with any testimony or opinions expressed in public hearings, it is important to remember that transparency and public hearings are a critical part of our democracy. However, the participants should respect decorum and not resort to falsehoods to further a political agenda.
🚨BREAKING: Victory for Life! U.S. Fifth Circuit blocks Biden abortion regime that facilitated the death of thousands of Louisiana babies through mail-order abortion pills.
The Biden abortion cartel facilitated the deaths of thousands of Louisiana babies (and millions in other states) through illegal mail-order abortion pills. Today, that nightmare is over, thanks to the hard work of my office and our friends at @ADFLegal. I look forward to continuing to defend women and babies as this case continues.

Unrealized gains tax for Gen-Z:
You buy a Pokémon card for $50.
Someone offers you $500 for it. You say no. You love that card. You're keeping it.
The government says: "Cool, but that card is worth $500 now. You owe us $100 in taxes."
You: "…I didn't sell it."
Government: "Don't care. Pay up."
You don't have $100 lying around. So you're forced to sell the card you love just to pay a tax on money you never received.
Next month? That card drops back to $50.
Your card is gone. Your money is gone. And the government shrugs.
That's a wealth tax on unrealized gains. They don't pay you back the tax...
Now picture this.
Your mom calls you crying. She has to sell the house she raised you in. Not because she can't afford it. She's lived there 30 years. It's paid off.
But some website says it's worth more now and the government says she owes $15,000 she doesn't have.
So she sells your childhood home. The kitchen where she made you breakfast. The doorframe where she marked your height every birthday.
Gone.
To pay a tax on money that was never real.
Now picture the opposite.
Your dad put everything into his small business. For 20 years he built it from nothing. One year the business is "valued" at $2 million on paper. He owes a massive tax bill. He empties his savings. Sells his truck. Borrows money. Pays it.
Next year the market crashes. His business is worth $200,000.
He lost everything to pay a tax on a number that doesn't exist anymore.
Does the government give him his money back?
No.
Does the government give him his truck back?
No.
Does the government care?
No.
They sold this idea as "taxing billionaires." But billionaires have armies of lawyers, offshore accounts, and trusts. They'll be fine.
You know who won't be fine? Your mom. Your dad. Your neighbor with a small business. The farmer down the road who's had the same land for four generations and now has to sell it because dirt got expensive.
You're not taxing wealth. You're taxing people for owning things.
It's like getting a parking ticket for a car you might drive somewhere someday.
They want you to own nothing and be happy. To fund the fraud, waste and abuse of the welfare state they created.
There is enough money. More tax isn't needed. It's all a lie. But you've been gaslit into believing this is a rich vs poor debate.
I hope you understand what's at stake.
In order to be a government of, by, and for the people, the government must run efficiently and responsibly.
This is exactly what we are doing here in Louisiana!
Nearly a billion dollars found in savings and efficiencies thanks to our Fiscal Responsibility team.
The work doesn’t stop here. We must continue our fight to rid the government of fraud, waste, and abuse!
While Governor Tim Walz presided over $9 billion lost to fraud in Minnesota, here in Louisiana we chose accountability and results.
Under my Fiscal Responsibility Program, we’ve saved nearly $1 billion in taxpayer dollars, without cutting services.
That’s real leadership.
.@ALLYCE_TRAPP is a proud two-time LSU grad, so to see Tiger Stadium lit up for her the night before the opener… man.
Thank you, LSU, for the support during a difficult time. Our family will always cherish this image.
Today, George W. Bush sent a message and the Crescent City Connection is bathed in yellow. All for @ALLYCE_TRAPP. I’m amazed by what our friends are doing to honor her. And so grateful 💛
Thank you to the people who made this happen. The top of the Louisiana State Capitol tonight is yellow in honor of @ALLYCE_TRAPP and the fight against angiosarcoma 💛

Eric Adams hits the nail on its head:
“This is a city NOT of socialism. I have been to socialist countries. There is no dignity in someone giving you everything for free. There is dignity in giving you a job so you can provide for your family.”
