@Candice49886053@bonstewart I wonder if that's something that people look up before they get an MRI, how they work? If so it could be basing your search results on what others have previously been looking for #unboundeq
@Candice49886053@bonstewart Its amazing how fast the algorithms can determine what you're looking for. Sometimes it can just take one search to tailor your future results
@Jessica64328424@bonstewart Some sites do sell your information. A saying that I like is "If you're not paying for it, you're the product." Being more private is tricky, but there are sites that will keep your stuff private - duckduckgo is a great replacement for google that doesn't track you #unboundeq
@DtsmTrocchi @bonstewart That's one of the great things about using twitter, we get to share with both people we know and with people we don't know #unboundeq
@Candice49886053@bonstewart I think also showing them more than just google can be effective too. Algorithms permeate all of our digital lives. Maybe bring up facebook, twitter, reddit, youtube etc. #unboundeq
@bonstewart Showing students case studies and articles like the Eubanks article -https://t.co/vwMMv5ZLxY - and having them examine how how bias affected the people of Maine in 2014, asking them to think critically and determine how bias shaped the algorithms and vice-versa #unboundeq
@KaylaGeorge_19 @bonstewart Is there anyway we can reduce this bias in our algorithms? Perhaps if we treat it more as a science with constant testing and iteration.
@golden106392054 @catherinepe28 @Digtechandsoci1 @bonstewart That's crazy how your phone is always tracking you and knows where you are and can give you briefs every morning about traffic
@bonstewart In my life I've seen algorithms at work in terms of ads on facebook and other sites. I was talking about ordering some sushi with my friends over a VOIP platform. After that every ad I got for the next three days were food for and sushi in my area (not a bad thing)
