Everyday I wake up astonished at how consistently the fossil fuel industry works to convince the world that Africa needs to slowly transition from coal, and do so using gas. Everyday it’s the same lie that we need fossil fuels to develop prosperity. It’s daunting and exhausting.
@zilevandamme When they tell you to go to hell but you already live in a country with so much potential but totally crippled by corruption & collusion with superpowers that don’t care about us 😭
We are leaving the climatic eta that supported and allowed for human civilisation to become what it is today. It will not continue or survive in whatever comes next. You can frame “revolution” and “transformation” as an OPTION we can choose — but really, it’ll happen anyway.
I don’t think people realise that farming and civilisation have NEVER BEEN TESTED outside of an incredibly stable 12k years of the Holocene. ANY change from that is likely catastrophic, and 3C in a century or two. Say goodnight.
I grew up in Botswana. It’s water scarce. This week I met someone in the climate change field in Bots.
He says you can’t buy potatoes anymore.
For a while, friends from my childhood home tell me fruit and vegetables are unavailable or unaffordable. Hope is getting harder

I got a paper review back saying I need to familiarise myself more with the works of Heejung Chung and that my work should engage more with her work.
At least once a day I have an uncanny feeling that I can't believe this is all actually happening. Reading this tweet was one of those times.
I just cannot believe the known world is actually being destroyed in my lifetime.
When I teach professionals, I sometimes put them in groups to discuss and take notes. I specifically name that women are overwhelmingly called upon to serve as recorders, so I ask that every group assign a man to do this. The reactions are *wild*. Regularly, one man makes a 1/x
Over 1.446 billion cars on Earth right now Replacing all of these with electric cars would cause environmental damage on a massive scale
People need to get out of cars
Invest in public transport, walk cycle, Recycle and find alternatives to cobalt and lithium already possible
Yet more evidence that getting out on the streets is effective at raising public concern about climate change, and that there is no 'backlash' from civil disobedience
Activism works
The modern techno-industrial capitalist era represents just 0.1% of our species' history, yet we seem to think we have to continue with this system despite the global injustices & climate & ecological breakdown it has caused. This system is not a fait accompli; we can do better.
BREAKING: IPCC scientist reveals it's actually been years since their models first indicated the catastrophic global warming acceleration now happening was to be expected 🧵
