In 1989, scientists discovered a new species of marine bacteria and began studying the chemical compounds it makes. Today, that bacteria is killing cancer in a Phase-3 clinical trial. I explored its long journey from seabed to bedside for @hakaimagazine: https://t.co/G6puHauKNd
"Mirrored glass abutted a few scrawny trees outside the building, creating a faux, fatal forest: an optical illusion perfectly designed to slaughter birds."

After years of taking photographs and never doing anything with them, I finally decided to start sharing them. You can find me at Instagram here: https://t.co/jPZ5VbJ8YM 😊
This year’s severe and early heating event, which has been experienced all along the Western Caribbean, continues to emphasize the importance and urgency of expanding coral restoration efforts to provide some hope that coral populations can persist.
In the Florida Keys, several past ocean heat waves have caused mass coral bleaching and mortality (most recently in 2014 and 2015). But they’ve never happened so early in the summer. This year’s event is much worse because of the timing. Thread 🧵
“We currently have these larvae in culture and are working to ensure these offspring may survive even if their parents succumb over the next months of anticipated hot weather. I truly cannot imagine many corals on South Florida reefs surviving another two months of summer heat.”
Great piece by @MelissaGaskill on the importance and impact of the collaborative coral restoration work @secore_int, @oceanfdn, @FUNDEMAR, and @UdeLaHabana are implementing in the Caribbean. 💙 https://t.co/DGsZItL5DI

Hey @wildlifesociety, thought you'd wanna know that I caught a typo!
I just read the phrase "beaver dams are a major cause of habitat degradation" in the below article, where surely you meant to write "provider of ecosystem benefits."
Happy to help.

My sweet boy was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer two months ago, and there have been many tough days since then, but I’m so grateful for the good ones. Today was a good one.
I recently discovered and started following @ThreatNotation, and I am delighted. For anyone else who’s ever spent countless hours reading and/or writing music, give yourself the gift of this music-geek joy.
Can napping get any more idyllic???
I just discovered this @JMNeelyPhoto of two globe mallow bees (Diadasia diminuta) sleeping in a globe mallow flower, and I’m smitten.
So thrilled to see bighorn sheep (those tiny specks mid-ridge) along the Deschutes River this weekend. Extinct in Oregon by 1912, reintroduced in the 1950s, and holding on today.
