Stats nerd. Queer parent. Disabled writer. Mediocre aerialist. New poetry book, "Pieces That Fit", out now in Melbourne bookshops and online at @BookshopDarlo
Mostly Iโm only on Twitter for elections and Eurovision but if you read one of my poems and came to my profile from my bio, hello! ๐ Great to meet you! ๐If youโre interested, my book is available various places including here: ๐ https://t.co/lHM7U4lUnI
@incrediblemelk Iโve always thought that was a weird line. Who is the โyouโ? Was it meant to inspire a collective effort for peace, or was it a poorly-phrased reference to the Vietnam war already being over?
@MarkusMannheim This is interesting given the often anti-academic vibe in the public service? Though possibly the data is very skewed given that federal research institutes like AIFS and AIC would mostly be staffed by people with PhDs. The proportion might be lower in central/line agencies?
Returning to Twitter to invite Melbournians to the launch of my first poetry book, "Pieces that Fit, and other poems set in Melbourne". 2pm Sunday 6th August at @ReadingsBooks St Kilda. There will be live music, wine and poetry. Book here (bring friends!): https://t.co/cjXbhXpFcF
@SheaSwauger I use a mix of Google scholar, making do with abstracts (better in science than social science), finding abstracts then emailing the lead author to ask for a PDF, and asking academic friends to download things for me. Iโm not an academic I just like to make informed decisions. ๐
@juliafgreen @mooninabucket Iโd say to write something that hasnโt been written yet. Even if others write about similar themes, the perspective of someone of a different age writing in a different time and place will lead to different thoughts, phrasings, characters, sources, etc.
@binarythis Oh and Iโd only be left out if something actually has to get done that day. Lots of people take more than a day to reply to an email anyway.
@binarythis I have my workdays in my email signature so that everyone I email has that info. I think thatโs better than sending an out of office which needs to be read and filed or deleted by each person.
