This was a fantastic event held in partnership with our autistic youth participants, like Kyla (11 years old), who shared their artwork that represented their experiences with social masking (shared with permission). Thanks to
@StephanieHowe1
for her leadership on this project!
This will be an amazing webinar series! Come here @Enhance_Lab_UC member @StephanieHowe1 talk about our work on risk assessment tools to assess for suicidality in people with FASD.
A fantastic time at #INSAR2023 in Sweden! A highlight was seeing @Enhance_Lab_UC's @StephanieHowe1 present her poster on camouflaging in autistic children and youth using photo elicitation + interviews. Such important work with a fantastic team @lauralhull @SedgewickF
Today the @Enhance_Lab_UC had our first (of many) student appreciation pizza lunches, where undergrads, graduate students and postdocs came together to celebrate successes, ask questions, and support each other! I love my job #Proudmentor
Last night we celebrated two @Enhance_Lab_UC grad student successes. Congrats to @StephanieHowe1 and @friesen_kelsey for these huge accomplishments. I’m so incredibly proud of you both!
🚨Our new paper on caregiver’s experiences of suicidality among children and youth with FASD is out! Led by the fantastic @kd_coons and @rebelprof with support from @CanFASD and @PolicyWise. Thanks to @StephanieHowe1@MercedesBagsha1 Kailyn Jones for their work on this.

While we are starting to learn more about camouflaging in adults with autism, we do not yet know whether children and youth with autism camouflage and what this may look like. Help us understand camouflaging in autistic children and youth!
I am still looking for families to participate in the ENHANCE Lab's new research study, 'Understanding Camouflaging and Identity in Autistic Children and Youth Using Photovoice'.
Find out more about the study and how you can register at the link below!

Some people with autism may feel that they need to 'mask' or hide their autism traits to be accepted and form relationships with non-autistic people. This is what we call 'camouflaging'.
Past research has found that camouflaging in adults with autism is related to an increased risk for mental health concerns, late or missed autism diagnosis, and a lack of support.
Still time to register for our free virtual webinar on Monday May 16th @ 4PM MST on camouflaging in autistic youth. Register at https://t.co/EzEbXtZMka.
