As I am converging on the role of IL-15 in cancer and infectious disease, the more I explore the literature, the more I find that the hypothesis of the "Parallels between Cancer and Infectious Disease" is correct. Early on, I believed that COVID was one of the most immunosuppressive viruses and published the paper on the "COVID-19: Staging of a New Disease" with Dr. Carlos Cordon-Cardo.

Now, I find a thought leader, Dr. Richard S. Hotchkiss confirming the belief that both cancer and infectious disease run parallel courses and represent the collapse of the immune system. The power of IL-15 in correcting these disorders whether it be cancer or sepsis is our goal as we pursue clinical trials both in sepsis and multiple tumor types.

I could not agree more with this statement by Dr. Hotchkiss et al., that:

"On a more general level, greater collaboration is required between oncologists, infectious-disease
specialists, translational immunologists, and
pharmaceutical companies in developing clinically relevant tests that identify patient-specific defects in innate or adaptive immunity... A change in clinical outcomes — in both cancer and infectious disease — will occur more quickly if investigators in these specialties pull together."

ImmunityBio will be the harnessing force to make this collaboration happen and advance clinical trials to change the paradigm of care.

Total CONFIRMATION of the CHAOTIC MESS INSIDE the FDA and how deep BIG PHARMA’S INFLUENCE really runs.
Uncoordinated and bureaucratic is still an understatement — it’s practically by design at this point.

And then there’s the bit about Merck and why Keytruda got approved… fascinating, if not a little too telling:

“Multibillion dollar company with floors of people that understand the science in very subtle ways and what the most direct streamline path will be to get an FDA novel.”

Admittedly there’s supposedly a new way of thinking now within the FDA - the talk of “collaboration,” “accelerated approvals,” etc.

But, also, in this round it’s confirmed: real change will still take a while.

Honored that the Saudi Embassy USA posted this recognition of @immunitybio efforts to bring Immunotherapy 2.0 as the next generation cancer care to their nation and embraced the concept of the power of NK and T cells to drive memory T cells.

Current fully enrolled studies across multiple tumor types including demonstrating that Anktiva increases lymphocytes, with data bases locked to be submitted for expanded and accelerated approval in the region, not unlike the multiple approvals USA FDA awarded Merck for Keytruda based on single arm trials- more details of this to come. Randomized trials already in motion for BCG naive and first plus second line lung cancer at global sites. Now multiple new confirmatory indications designed to address the previously unrecognized disease that causes early mortality - called lymphopenia - - will be all opened in short order in the region. From addressing sepsis to colon cancer to liver cancer and lymphopenia .

Current CAR-T therapy is faced with multiple hurdles-the cost and time it takes to manufacture and most of all the need for patients to undergo chemo and be hospitalized doing so in order to rid the bone marrow of lymphocytes before the CART infusion. This process is called lymphodepletion. The toxic side effects and costs close to a million dollars is not sustainable. At our summit we showed how all of these were overcome! More to come. Good summary of key clinical trials ongoing @immunitybio of the Bioshield program including our now completely enrolled trial to PREVENT cancer for over a million Americans at risk with Lynch Syndrome and a 80 percent higher risk of colon cancer because of a genetic abnormality.

Will provide updates next week on our Bladder cancer papillary disease discussions with FDA and updates on the exciting studies of growing NK cells and storing billions of these cells for treating patients with cancer with off the shelf NK cells that have been activated ( called Memory -Cytokine Enhanced Natural Killer cells or m-CENK for short) and manufacturing them at scale with Anktiva as the growth factor, creating a product and no longer a process …by launching the world’s first AI driven cell manufacturing robots that we have taught with machine vision algorithms to replicate our complex process of growing these m-ceNK cells by the billions and freezing them in storage 24/7 in a clean room “robot machine”. This is such a breakthrough in #cancer treatment by harnessing your own immune system to target tumors & potentially replace chemotherapy.

Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, founder of ImmunityBio & a prominent figure in oncology (recognized in 2025 as one of the 100 most influential people in the field), is advancing immunotherapy through the company's FDA approved drug “Anktiva”(nogapendekin alfa inbakicept-pmln), an IL-15 superagonist.

Approved in 2024 for BCG unresponsive non muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) with carcinoma in situ (with or without papillary tumors), Anktiva activates natural killer (NK) cells, T cells & memory T cells to target cancer cells more precisely than traditional treatments.
