I'd love to see Jensen trying different roles (and I know he has the range to), but seeing him doing what he likes to do makes me happier... He made it clear that investigation/action is what he likes. He's not being typecast, it's him deciding the roles he likes to play.

He’s single with no kids in the first book. His ex girlfriend is pregnant with his first daughter at the end of the first book so we won’t likely see this in first season I reckon
