Ed Emshwiller (1925–1990) was a visionary illustrator and filmmaker known for his bold, surreal sci-fi and pulp magazine covers of the 1950s and ’60s. He worked on classic science fiction magazines, such as Galaxy, Amazing Stories, and Astounding Science Fiction.
To Live and Die in LA (1985): Total nihilism, a noir set in hell. One of Friedkin’s best, maybe the key US thriller of the ‘80s. The 4K is stunning - I could look at Robby Müller’s work all day. Petersen’s performance is magnetic, demented. Equals French Connection for me
"I am like a sun that does not warm, but illuminates. My light is a clear, cold light that reveals things in their brutal reality, without offering comfort."
- Pasolini
