At https://t.co/td1yiUkEe8, we sat together and thought about what needs to be done to advance #multidisciplinary#stroke#biomarker research in a pragmatic and meaningful way. This @TheLancetNeuro paper summarizes what we came up with. https://t.co/KYf60ZJeld
Congrats to Stephen Brennan #STROKE Simultaneous publication at #WSC2025

Does anticoagulation reduce stroke recurrence in patients with sub clinical AF? Check out our editorial & recent paper by Palaiodimou et al https://t.co/J105SzCMBf @ESOstroke@UCD_Research#stroke#stroketwitter
Our findings suggest that while PDE5A inhibition may benefit cerebrovascular health, the genetic evidence does not support the idea that these drugs protect against Alzheimer’s disease.
Drug target Mendelian randomization for IL-18 downregulation🎯🧬
⬇️risk for adverse cardiac remodelling, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, AFib, cardioembolism
⬇️risk of CKD and T2D
⬇️risk of atopic and autoimmune diseases
⬆️risk of lung cancer, multiple sclerosis, infections
Association of BMI polygenic score with diseases with and without adjusting for BMI. Interesting work from deCODE Genetics.
I bet most of these indications are currently being studied in GLP1 clinical trials.

Congratulations to Dr. Stephen Brennan on a brilliant talk on Mendelian randomisation data demonstrating that IL-18 is implicated in a high risk:
-Heart failure
-AF
-Cardioembolic stroke
-cardiac remodelling

@paul_finn@GeorgeLeeRTE @mcculld It’s very likely that some more deaths will be added. In Ireland, providers have three months to notify coroners that a death has occurred, this is the notified death that the CMO reports on each day.
@boldteddy @Daithipower81@EwanMacKenna@GeorgeLeeRTE The best way/only way really to know in the short term is by icu admissions and by how much the health system is overwhelmed. The majority of deaths are reported in a week, so looking back at previous weeks death rates is good way to see how things are trending.
