We clearly described this problem back in 2007 in our report “Out of sight - Out of mind” (Carole Chapman et al). Evidence collected from over 3,000 families, 200 staff working in the field, together with 22 Local Authorities and feedback from 80 Head Teachers across 34 Local Authorities was clear that “In summary, the policy framework designed to support societal change has become the unintentional instrument of exclusion and marginalisation”. Every MP and @educationgovuk had a copy. Everyone ignored it. Still happy to help if asked, 18 years on.
@bphillipsonMP you just performed a stunning @BBCr4today interview in the face of a predictably negative interlocutor. Just absolutely well done. Was cheering as I drove my granddaughter to school @educationgovuk#school#education
@benrwright@JimGamble_INEQE@bphillipsonMP what's wrong is: not all parents can give top grade advice on quadratic equations or syntactical concepts like fronting or the subjunctive mood. And a key, free, varied, conduit of support for kids who can't afford extra tuition is being severed. @bphillipsonMP@JimGamble_INEQE
@JimGamble_INEQE@Mickheidie Jim you’re being very clear and sensible about all this and thanks for that. Good on TV this morning too. Shout loud please! For so many kids YouTube and TikTok were an exam lifeline. There is a huge equity issue here.
@Thesheepdoctor When cars didn’t have seat belts children in the back suffered injuries. We didn’t ban cars we legislated for better safety measure - seat belts. Tye same principle can apply.
Today's social media ban misses a fundamental point: we need to know who is who online. Anonymity is the friend of jeopardy. In year 2000 we ALMOST got the Blair gov. to commit to a lifetime digital identity for every child. Would have solved everything https://t.co/AqHjYlrohh
