If you knew FIFA you would know that selling even a 20% stake is equivalent to selling football
It means corporate investors (the Trump family) will control World Cup
Which means dynamic pricing/$10,000 tickets become the norm
Sweating the assert every way possible
👋 to ordinary fans
USA hosting every World Cup (no more European/African/Sth American World Cups)
Biennial World Cups, 64 teams, player welfare minimised
Even more money to FIFA members with unaudited accounts
The worst kind of capitalism
And obviously they ‘can’ do that
The question is whether they ‘should’?
And whether 21st century capitalism has any moral moorings whatsoever?
We spoke to reporter Zaynab Faraj, who survived a triple-tap attack that killed her colleague, Amal Khalil.
She described how an Israeli strike first hit a car ahead of them, killing two civilians, before a second strike targeted their own vehicle, severely injuring Amal. Ms Faraj said she helped her into an empty house, where they lay wounded and terrified, waiting for help.
A third Israeli strike then hit the building where they were hiding, collapsing it on top of them.
“Amal was gone,” Ms Faraj said. “And I was left alone.”
Throughout the ordeal, the journalists made repeated calls for help. But Israel prevented the Lebanese Army and the Lebanese Red Cross from reaching them, informed sources told us.
Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil was found dead after hours of searching under rubble. She was killed in an Israeli strike, after the Israeli army fired at ambulances trying to reach her, delaying her rescue.
She is the fourth journalist killed by Israel while in the field since 2 March.
She was a professional, kind and dedicated journalist, and always a pleasure to run into in the field.
April 22 (Reuters) - An Israeli drone dropped a grenade on rescuers trying to lift a wounded journalist from rubble in Tayri, in southern Lebanon, a senior Lebanese military official told Reuters on Wednesday.
For more than an hour, I’ve been trying to calm Kiraz from her fear every time she hears the sound of the airplane — but in vain.
Despite her drowsiness, she couldn’t feel safe enough to fall asleep.
This is what Israel has planted in the hearts of our children.💔
The Palestinian Civil Defense Forces manage to rescue a child trapped under the rubble after the air strike a few minutes ago.
Dozens more remain under the rubble.
Give the Nobel Peace Prize to the Palestinian Civil Defense Forces tomorrow. They deserve it!
Thank you!
Most notably, when severe famine set in this past Spring/Summer in Gaza there was an 8 week period where none of the four Sunday shows covered Gaza at all, and CNN’s State of the Union with Jake Tapper and Dana Bash went a staggering 17 straight weeks without covering Gaza at all
In two years since Oct 7, “agenda setting” Sunday shows—CNN’s SOTU, NBC’s Meet The Press & ABC’s This Week—have not featured a single Palestinian guest. I wrote about how US media shuts out Palestinians while musing about the particulars of their genocide https://t.co/Ta5JkTLkeT
I hate to be the bearer of tragic news.
I was working on a story about a young girl when I learned, through Dr. Saya Aziz Bajalan, an Australian physician working in Gaza, that she had suffered severe injuries. I asked Dr. Bajalan if she had any details about her. The only information available at the time was that she had been admitted to the hospital on September 25, 2025.
I wanted to share an update with you all.
Yesterday, I managed to connect with a nurse who had worked alongside Dr. Bajalan at al-Shifa Hospital, the same nurse who took the photo I posted. By coincidence, Wesam, the nurse, turned out to be my neighbor from Beit Lahia.
He told me the girl had to be evacuated to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis after al-Shifa came under attack and because the hospital was running low on doctors. Beyond that, he didn’t know what had happened to her. I asked him early this morning if he could try to find out more.
A few hours later, he sent me a message: her name was Tala Hasan Jawa’nah.
She succumbed to her wounds yesterday.
She was 11 years old.
I went back to the reports from the day she was admitted. I found the names of two of her siblings—Celine and Deema—both killed instantly in the strike on al-Shati Camp.
That’s the camp where I was born.
Tala and her sisters… they could have been my children’s friends.
This is the story I didn’t know I was writing to you.
A heartbreaking dialogue under the rubble...
A civil defense rescuer tries to comfort a little girl calling for her father, assuring her that he is waiting for her with something she loves.
How can parents, especially in the West, who so often claim to cherish family and children, watch the parents of Gaza mourn their slaughtered sons and daughters, see them ripped apart alongside their children, and still turn away in silence?
This is Alaa al-Arja. She was 5 years old.
She died from severe malnutrition in Gaza, the result of Israel’s criminal siege and ongoing genocidal campaign.
Alaa once weighed 18 kilograms, a healthy child.
By the time she died, she weighed just 7 kilograms.
Alaa was not born sick.
She had no preexisting condition.
She was starved to death.
Do you know what is happening now in northern Gaza?
Let me tell you:
At this very moment, the occupation army is shutting down all distribution points where aid used to reach the remaining families there. It has also closed all crossings through which food and water entered northern Gaza.
And that was not enough. They also targeted all the water stations that used to quench people’s thirst, and just moments ago they issued evacuation orders for international organizations and hospitals to relocate entirely to southern Gaza.
Every single road that served as a lifeline for families has been closed, leaving life completely cut off in northern Gaza.
Now, there is no food, no water, no essential services, no safety—nothing at all.
All of this is being carried out with one clear aim: to forcibly displace families from the north to the south.
Today, northern Gaza is facing terrifying, catastrophic, and extremely dangerous conditions. They are living through every detail of a real genocide right now.💔
🚨BREAKING: The two children in this video are gone.
Jana passed away today after over a year of pleas for treatment abroad. Youssef followed, his eyes filled with tears, as Israel blocked his chance to leave.
Neither Jana’s cries nor Youssef’s tears moved this silent world. Behind them, thousands of children lie in Gaza’s hospitals, not knowing if they are waiting for death.
The worst image of 2025, as we are living days unlike anything we have ever witnessed before.
History will forever record the filthiest and most atrocious of these inhumane crimes.💔
