Seeing our culture turn Thanksgiving more and more into Turkey Day shows how self-absorbed our society has become.
Psalms 107:31 “Oh, that [men] would give thanks to the LORD [for] His goodness, And [for] His wonderful works to the children of men!”
In the year that ________________,
I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up.
No matter what you put in that blank, it is still true.
Remember that today.
A promise is only as good as the power and control of the one who makes it—
Hebrews 6:13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself,
1 John 2:25 And this is the promise that He has promised us--eternal life.
A desire for transcendence—to live for something beyond ourselves—affects every generation.
If not the Gospel, something earthly will always seek to fill that desire.
Let everybody see it,
That Christ has made you free;
And if it sets them longing,
Say, "Jesus died for thee!"
Soon, soon, our eyes shall see Him!
And, in our home above,
We'll sing "the old, old story"
Of "Jesus and His love!"
(Katherine Hankey 1834-1911)
Part of trusting God is believing He can slam doors shut just as well as He can pry them open.
The hard part is accepting the action that He takes as an answer to our prayers.
The surest way to waste a day is by always looking forward to tomorrow.
Psalms 118:24 This [is] the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.
When we convince ourselves to be something God doesn’t want us to be, we seek to convince ourselves that somehow Jesus affirms our decision.
But when we do this, whose affirmation are we actually seeking? Christ’s or our own?
Faithfulness to God's Word may not always be popular, but consistency will always be tied to your name.
When I think of the Bible commentators/preachers I am most comfortable quoting and referencing, I think of those who withstood attacks by ever leaning upon the Scriptures.
