At least 30 people were killed Wednesday when a high-speed train slammed into the back of another train that had stopped in central Spain, derailing two cars, authorities said.

The collision occurred in the province of Toledo between two trains traveling in the same direction from Madrid to Seville. More than 500 passengers were aboard the two trains, with emergency crews responding to the scene as authorities worked to assist the injured. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

Why?

- The tax will raise costs across SF for 15 years and is passed on to renters and small business owners

- There is no accountability in Prop H. No reporting is due until a year after the dispersal of fund payouts begin. And the "oversight body” is a group of citizens (appointed by the SFMTA Board) that has no enforcement powers

- There is no enforceable requirement for SFMTA to be more efficient or more effective.

- SFMTA could reduce costs up to $300 million without MUNI service cuts, as noted in our March 2026 SFMTA Budget Analysis

- Ridership is 81%of pre-pandemic levels. Demand is still lagging. Yet SFMTA wants to increase service. Where’s the common sense in that?

- SFMTA admitted today at the Board meeting they could be looking at reducing costs through absenteeism, attrition and excessive overtime to reduce costs but have chosen not to wait

It is incredibly naive to think, especially as closely packed as we are here, to believe that there are no externalities and that every lot exists in a separate silo.

ICE agents, like Police Departments, search for suspects matching a description. Given the missing or incomplete information, sometimes they detain the wrong individual. It happens. This is not a civil rights violation. However, when detainees refuse to cooperate, problems arise.

My "hot" take. We need MORE ICE enforcement in SF, especially the Tenderloin, not less. A significant percentage of the dealers are Honduran Nationals. Removal of every one of them would cripple the drug markets and save lives. But we're apparently not interested in that...

@_johnsonator San Francisco has always been very walkable, and thanks to NIMBYs, we don't have freeways slicing through Glen Canyon, Golden Gate Park, and the Haight. NIMBYs stopped the freeways, protected neighborhoods, the quality of life, and walkability. NIMBYs can be a force for good.
