Dr. Mark Skousen was just featured in The Wall Street Journal with a new piece highlighting a major economic signal from Gross Output (GO), the macroeconomic statistic he pioneered...

Unlike GDP, which focuses on final output, GO measures total spending across the economy, including activity throughout the supply chain.

And the latest numbers are striking:
• Gross Output rose 5.0% in the second quarter, compared with 2.2% growth in GDP
• Business-to-business spending surged 13.8% annualized, its strongest pace in years

🚨 25 years after 9/11, the market lesson still matters.

The attacks of September 11, 2001 remain one of the darkest days in American history.

The market reaction was historic:
• S&P 500: -11.6% in the first week
• Nasdaq: -16.1%
• ~$1.4T in market value erased
• Markets remained closed for four trading sessions

The S&P 500 bottomed on September 21, just four sessions after reopening.

Then came the recovery.

The Dow reclaimed its pre-9/11 level by late October, roughly six weeks after the attacks.

The lesson isn't that markets ignore tragedy.

They don't.

The lesson is that even after an unprecedented shock, markets can recover far faster than expected.

25 years later, 9/11 remains a reminder that extreme fear can create extreme dislocations.

Markets can fall fast. Resilience can come just as quickly.
