After the tragedy in Minnesota yesterday, I ask a very simple question: What are we OK with?
I truly believe this is worth your time.
Also, don’t argue in the comments. Don’t even read them.
@atkinson_mw@jamiegoode@JancisRobinson Much lower is an exaggeration, but they were lower. The heat spikes that occurred were also shorter in length than those in 2003, 2018.
Out of curiosity, where are you sourcing your data from?
Overall, it’s an outstanding showing from Bordeaux, the people, the vines and Mother Nature made something special this year. Yields down 30% from ‘21 due to heat and 40% less rain than 30 yr average, very small - but healthy - grapes in 2022. Expect prices to rise 15-30%.
Important to keep in mind that the wines being assessed and written about from critics around the world are not finished wines and will change. Your best bet will always be to follow the producers that you have known and loved, and you’ll make great additions to your cellars. #ep
Pierre Olivier Clouet of @ChevalBlanc said “This was not the year of man. This was the year of the vine.” The vines of Bordeaux showed resilience in a turbulent vintage, the wines may not make sense on paper but sure as hell do in glass. #enprimeur#enprimeur2022#bordeaux
Happy to privately give honest and unbiased feedback on any of the wines tasted at #enprimeur 2022. Some chateaux came up short & it does no good to make my one opinion public, but if you ask you’ll hear more positive than negative thanks to great vineyards and teams in Bordeaux
Another stunning effort from Chateau Margaux, already so promising with all of the components coming together as one and having such a grand story to tell. Excited to see the lives these wines take on over time. #enprimeur#enprimeur2022#bordeaux
