6th graders are using Mr.Potato Head to learn about body parts in Spanish class! They built their own Mr. Potato Heads, uploaded pictures of them to Padlet, and then wrote descriptions about them in Spanish :)
At the end of our unit on homes, 7th graders pretended to be real estate agents! Students created advertisements for homes for sale in Hispanic countries, such as Chile and Argentina
A handful of 6th grade students volunteered to make Pan de Muerto, a common food for Día de los Muertos! Students baked the bread and brought it in for the class to try. They did an amazing job!! So fun and tasty.
Exposure to native speakers is so important in second language acquisition!For a 7thgrade Goals Check, I recorded my mom(a native Spanish speaker) asking students questions orally about el Día de Muertos. Great opportunity for students to hear a different authentic native accent!
Today, I challenged 6th graders to see how long they could speak ONLY Spanish for! I set a timer and they went 12 minutes, having great conversations describing elements of Día de Muertos, without saying a word in English! So impressed for their first full year of daily Spanish!
To kick off our unit on Día de los Muertos, 7th graders decorated the white board with Post-It notes! They wrote what they already know about the holiday and placed it in the right category: activities, food, clothing, family, or religion #DiadelosMuertos
In one of my graduate school courses, I learned how to create your own Google Map and incorporate it into your classroom. Today, 7th graders are independently using my Google Map to discover all of the countries around the world that speak Spanish and their locations!
To continue with Hispanic Heritage Month, 7th grade students are completing a mini research project on a Hispanic Country! Students are making Google Slides presentations after researching their country. They are creating their own sentences in Spanish! I am so proud!
Understanding language proficiency is so important in World Language class! Today, students created writing samples for different language proficiency levels from novice low-intermediate low. Then, they took turns identifying what level each piece was!

For their end of unit project on birthdays, 4th graders interpreted 12 real life birthday party invitations (in Spanish)! Students used what they learned in this unit, such as numbers, age, dates, and time, to answer the questions given and interpret the invitations.
Students came up with their own “12 Deseos para el Año Nuevo” (12 wishes for the New Year) in honor of the Spanish tradition of eating 12 grapes at midnight! #lasdoceuvas#twelvegrapes
