Grade 1s @StAlStars read the poem band aids by Shel Silverstein and were asked to solve if there are more band aids on the person or in the box? They grouped ones cubes into tens to count efficiently.

What is a number talk? Everyday students work with dots, dice, 5 and 10 frames, rekenreks, hundreds charts and images to solve problems. We talk about the different strategies used e.g., counting all, counting on, doubles/near doubles, making tens and friendly numbers.
