It really hurts me to see what people are saying about Schizophrenia online and in the media.

I and many other Australians live with this mental disorder every single day of our life. I have bad days, but they are few. My brain simply works differently to yours. I struggle to concentrate and communicate. But most of my days are good.

Instead of vilifying those who live with this disorder. How about you do some reading, or ask us questions? It’s not just hallucinations and hearing voices.

Most people who have this disorder are more likely to be harmed by those who don’t. We’re not monsters. We’re human beings who have feelings. Stop trying to stigmatise this disorder.

When tragedy’s happen like this, it’s mostly because that person was neglected and failed by the mental health system. It could’ve been prevented if the person received the support and care they needed.

That’s the problem. I hope this is a wake up call to @AustralianLabor + @LiberalAus Not enough services and most are unaffordable to many Australians who suffer with their mental health every day.

Stop stigmatising mental health, and turning your backs on those who need help.
