Just this weekend I had a 6th grade team getting crushed😩 We couldn’t beat their halfcourt zone trap. I asked their coach if they could play M2M, so the kids could get something out of it. To their credit, they did🤝
We played them even the rest of the way. Our skill wasn’t the issue. It was the size, strength, and athleticism difference which will even out through puberty. When that happens, it’ll be our kids that have been working on their skills that will be ahead💯
I think coaches telling players they don’t like the mid range is one of the most ignorant statements in all of basketball. I would never let my kid play for a coach that felt this way.
Picking the right high school coach and program is still the most significant part of a player’s developmental journey.
That’s why parents, not high school state associations, should be the ones deciding where their kids play.
