I was moved to tears when speakers such as DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. , delivered the powerful “I HAVE A DREAM ” speech about freedom. I hope the further is as bright as what MLK jr. mentions.
Today, on AUGUST 28, 1963, I went Washington, DC, covering the impactful speech of MLK Jr. I headed to the March at LINCOLN MEMORIAL. As the movement began, I was with a sea of about 250,000 PEOPLE, including 75,000 WHITE AMERICANS.
Leaders, like HUEY NEWTON, MALCOLM X SUPPORTERS, and the BLACK PANTHERS advocated for a more VIOLENT, militant approach to achieving racial equality. The SPLIT in ideologies led to arguments and the Black community was divided and they felt ALIENATED.
Steve Bob here with some very saddening news. MARTING LUTHER KING JR HAS BEEN ASSASSINATED. As a result, leaders of the civil rights movement, are continuing to push King’s approach of NON-VIOLENT METHODS.
And finally, the VOTING RIGHTS ACT OF 1964 secured voting rights for Black Americans. This achievements are very monumental. I am proud to say that I was apart of this era and to see it progress is a privilege.
Many new achievements has happened in regards to civil rights. the CIVIL RIGHTS ACT OF 1964 banned discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin. The 24th AMENDMENT in 1964 prohibits poll tax during elections.
This was due to the denial of Black Americans’ right to REGISTER to VOTE. A 50-MILE PROTEST march began from Selma to Montgomery. In response to the attacks, President Lyndon B Johnson showed his support to the Selma protesters; “AND WE SHALL OVERCOME.”
Steve Bob here with terrible news. Today, on MARCH 7, 1965, peaceful protesters were VIOLENTLY ATTACKED by local WHITE SELMA SHERIFFS with TEAR GAS, GAS MASKS, WHIPS, and CLUBS in SELMA, ALABAMA.
As seen in the photo above, FEDERAL MARSHALS helped escort Meredith safely into school. Consequently, this resulted in a violent riot, resulting in 2 CIVILLIAN FEATHS AND 200 ARRESTS.
Steve Bob coming to you with imprtant news! PRESIDENT JOHN F KENNEDY sent out 5,000 SOLDIERS to help JAMES MEREDITH,a Black man! James Meredith was finally able to attend the UNIVERSITY of MISSISSIPPI. Sadly,His attendance piqued people and they attempted to block his way.
These people have faced VIOLENCE with CHAINS, BRASS KNUCKLES, AND GUNS. Attorney General ROBERT KENNEDY sent out 400 US MARSHALS to keep mobs from attacking these Freedom Riders. Furthermore, PRESIDENT KENNEDY secures an INTERSTATE COMMERCE COMMISSION which bans segregation!
This just in, NASHVILLE STUDENT activists from the CONGRESS OF RACIAL EQUALITY(CORE) established the “FREEDOM RIDERS” program to test the implementation of the Supreme Court’s decision of segregation on INTERSTATE BUS AND TRAIN ROUTES!
"WADE-INS" and "KNEEL-INS" are some other ways the civil rights memebers are peacefully prtesting. The STUDENT NONVIOLENT COORDINATING COMMITTEE(SNCC) has been very helpful in creating and leading these protests. Hopefully I will have new news to report on this issue. GoodBye.
Steve Bob reporting from NORTH CAROLINA'S AGRICULTURAL AND TECHNICAL COLLEGE where the LUNCH COUNTER SIT INS have caused protests across 48 CITIES in 11 STATES. Over 50,000 STUDENTS joined in, facing ARRESTS, BEATINGS, SUSPENSIONS FROM COLLEGE, TEAR GAS, and FIRE HOSE ATTACKS
Adittionally, speakers also discussed how the oppressed have suffered for too long and want a call to action. SCLC hopes to inspire people to use peaceful methods to fight for their rights and bring about lasting change. It was a impactful message of optimism and activism.
BREAKING NEWS: THE SOUTHERN CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE(SCLC) highlighted the principles of Mahatma GHANDI's CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE and NON-VIOLENCE. They called it "SOULFORCE" and explained how change can happen without the use of violence!
It is sad to see the violence coming from anti- desegregation Americans. Many people around America are watching this historic moment. I will continue to report the status of the civil rights movement.
Today, I'm reporting from Little Rock, where GOVERNOR ORVAL FAUBUS attempted to prevent the integration of CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL. In response, PRESIDENT EISENHOWER DEPLOYED ONE THOUSAND PARATROOPERS TO ACCOMPANY THE STUDENTS TO CLASS.
The US SUPREME COURT is hearing a case challenging the constitutionality of segregation on buses. Browder v. Gayle argues that segregated buses violate the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution. The outcome can change the tide for civil rights!
BREAKING NEWS: In a historic move, the Black community in Montgomery, Alabama, has organized a BUS BOYCOTT to protest against the city's SEGERATED bus system. The boycott, was caused by the arrest of Rosa Parks.
Sadly, the boycott has been met with VIOLENCE from some white Americans who have attacked Blacks and vandalized their cars. In response, the Black community has organized CAR POOLS to help people get where they need to go safely.
