Today marks “A Century of Ed!”
The great Ed Little was born 100 years ago today.
His vibe, his voice— it’s the sound that makes Mid-Century Modern and Atomic Age come alive.
Ed was a true original who not only fully captured the essence of an entire era— he stayed true to it, and brought the same sound and feel 30 years later.
He was an amazing friend and mentor. I think about him every day and appreciate him more with each passing year.
After growing acceptance & better treatment of our lesbian & gay brothers & sisters, many are now actively moving back to a society like the one I'm reporting on from 40 years ago. We need equality under law and equality in each other's hearts. https://t.co/q4TrpxVXx3
While writing this, my wife reminded me, when we were dating, I took her to the D&K on Seneca Street. I was struck by how weird that is, but also how proud I am of young Steve. Hahaha. Apparently I wasted the opportunity to take her to Odd's-N-End's. :) https://t.co/qpN8Q5bxYl
@hsimon62 As we listen to the audio clips at https://t.co/XYSfrYPrQ4 many of us will laugh at Howard talking up Kajagoogoo or Wang Chung or being a country music disc jockey. We’ll laugh, but we’ll all be thinking– “what an amazing talent this guy is… at everything he does.”
.@hsimon62 might be the best broadcaster I’ve ever worked with.
So knowledgeable, personable, smooth and genuine that he really didn’t have to prepare.
Still, he’s the most prepared talkshow host I’ve ever seen.
@hsimon62 Even though he’s the best broadcaster I’ve ever worked with– I don’t even feel moved to write about that when I think about Howard. All I can think about is that Howard Simon might be the finest human being I’ve ever worked with. (Howard and Steve, 1995)
@hsimon62 Of course, the fact that Howard is so nice (and I am such a prick) makes him a very easy target for my merciless chirping.
He won’t like that I’m sharing some of these photos and audio highlights from early in his career - but I know he’s expecting it. Or at least he should be.
