@realtjhaines I would disagree. Most Catholics see God as both a merciful and just God. We are shown mercy while on earth. Through Baptism we enter a covenantal relationship with Him. In confession we are forgiven our sins. In the Eucharist we recieve Him. He shows us His love at every turn.

@SipsWithSerra You are partially correct. Sacraments work ex opere operato, "by the very fact of the action being performed." So, grace comes from Christ's power and sacrifice, not from the personal merit, or good work of the person receiving or the priest administering it. So it's God's work.

@needGod_net Our salvation is an unmerited gift. We must cooperate with God's grace. Faith is the initial response. It's like getting a present. Unwrapping the present is necessary. Cooperating by growing in holiness & performing works inspired by the Holy Spirit is unwrapping the gift.

@ShaneSchaetzel @KimonoGirl214 Excommunication is medicinal, not punitive. Excommunication is to get her to see the error of her ways and hopefully have a conversion of heart.
That's why an Excommunication is necessary. Also it would teach the faithful how grave a matter it truly is.

@renewingprotest Need to learn how gender works in ancient languages, similar to the Romance languages.
Using that logic and ignoring gender then it could have become "you are Petula and on this petula I will build my Church".
