@smerconish A person can voluntarily achieve a state where they can no longer make decisions. But once there, they cannot make the decision to participate in sex.
@smerconish I am childless, supportive of better education for all, even if it costs me. Investment in our country’s future. But I wouldn’t support a solution that compromised my own child. I support firefighting. But I wouldn’t send my child into a burning house to help save it.
@smerconish Fundamentally, AI is not too different from other tools. They are seldom harmful on their own. And are much more likely to create havoc in the hands of bad actors.
@smerconish Membership in DSA is a black mark in the primary. And a death knell in the general. Even the dems aren’t that stupid. The US ain’t all NYC.
@smerconish My pride in my country is not diminished by the stumbles America has had. If anything, I am more proud that an imperfect people continue to try and move toward a more perfect Union.
@smerconish I truly hope Ds jettison Platner. Getting old to have parties say, “Well, I don’t like her. He’s offensive. But I’ll hold my nose, supporting the one wearing my jersey to get some progressive/conservative judges/policies implemented – at the cost of our integrity.”
@ScottPelley On the offhand chance that no one has suggested it yet, why don't you take all the castaways from your former job, go to @NBCNews, and pitch the idea of an in-depth, serial news program. I have the title. An Hour.
@smerconish It's easy to "identify" as something you want to be, even if it isn't you. I have a relative who says he "identifies" as an independent. Me - "How often do you vote for a Democrat?" Him - "I never have." #BradleyEffect
@smerconish Re Iran, I'm not convinced there was an imminent threat 2 months ago. But now that we're there, gotta finish the job. No sense in building half of a dam.
@smerconish Timing is everything. I think kids today are the least prepared for the world. But if you're a POC, Baby Boomers def had it the toughest. Although it h/n improved as much as I would like.
@smerconish It’s unfair to compare Iraq and Afghanistan, misinformation on one and a reaction to an overt act on the other, to Iran. The first two were considered necessary wars, although Iraq was a poor decision in hindsight. Iran is more a war of choice.
@smerconish People whose opinions on President Trump remain unchanged, even during powerful events like war, only lead credence to the concept of TDS. Separate the man from the decision. And judge each decision independently.
@smerconish Why, exactly, are we attacking Iran, when we "obliterated" their nuclear capability eight months ago, and eight years after we had gotten what we wanted with the Iranian nuclear agreement (which, by all accounts, was working fine)?
@smerconish As a CPA, I work regularly with taxpayers who submit refund claims when the government oversteps its boundaries and tax is overpaid. Classic case. The entities that pays the tax (importers) are the only ones eligible for refunds. Consumers chose to make the purchase.
@smerconish I’m not sure how reviewing a doorbell camera video impedes on anyone’s individual privacy. Law enforcement is only obtaining access to what seems to be public information.
@tonydokoupil Tony, I'm enjoying your helm thus far. But facts matter. (1) Judgment is spelled with one "e" in the US. (2) SMU is not in Dallas. Look it up. (3) Good was not "murdered." She was shot. This has not been adjudicated. BTW, your sign-off last Thursday was phenomenal.
@smerconish Disagree that press overhyped Epstein. When those in control appear to be covering up, the press will continue to follow the story that the powerful don’t want to be told.
@smerconish Re: AI. Autos disrupted train engineers. Cell phones disrupted landline installers. Technology improves commerce and economies, albeit with some winners and losers. And more of the former.
