Standing between the wishes of the Australian people and their desired cuts to sky-high immigration is a powerful force that has deep pockets and extensive political connections, writes Jordan Knight.

@MarkoMatvikov This would then feed into a doom loop of justification where people say "look see! You have all of this land and all of these resources open the flood gates" and we end up with the current issues we have on steroids.
@MarkoMatvikov This is very much on the money, my concern with agreeing on the "abundant agricultural land" argument is that the usual suspects will use it as a justification for inifinte migration, which is something that ecologically and materially the continent just cannot sustain 1/2
Australia has a relatively small population.
We share no land borders and are protected by vast oceans.
We have abundant agricultural land, enormous natural resources, and some of the world’s most valuable exports.
We’ve enjoyed more than 80 years without war on our own soil and never experienced a civil war.
There is no reason poverty should be increasing in this country.
There is no reason the middle class should be shrinking.
There is no reason each generation shouldn’t have the opportunity to live better than the last.
Australia’s challenges aren’t the result of a lack of land, resources, wealth, or stability.
They are the result of political decisions.
And for too long, we’ve kept electing politicians who fail us.
@NavyLookout@FennellJW@TomCotterillX The offer BAES-A put to the RAN on upgunning the Hunters, paired with the CEAFAR2 radar and Aegis, all of which we’ve paid for (mostly) would be the best fit and a fantastic opportunity for interoperability and commonality with us, maybe even some industrial burden sharing?
"I don't want to see reproduced in Australia the kind of problem they have in South Africa, or in America, or, increasingly, in Great Britain." — PM Sir Robert Menzies 🇦🇺
Stargate remains a very masculine SciFi franchise. Especially after the first couple of seasons you didn't see much pussyfooting around with the SG-1 or Atlantis team.
When in trouble, shoot the bad guys with a gun.
If that doesn't work, shoot the bad guys with a bigger gun.
Or blow them up with C4.
Or use alien technology to do them in.
The lessons they learned to save the day in one episode are then remembered and used to save the day in the next. A novel concept!
Small wonder why the suits at Amazon cancelled Martin Gero and the gang.
The Expanse went through this with Syfy and the fan backlash was so great, they managed to be picked up by #Amazon and continue the series for another 3 seasons.
If the fan backlash is big enough, they will listen. Get #Stargate trending, let #Amazon know how you feel.
We want what @BaronDestructo and Mr. Gero and everyone involved with the original deal, to be back on the table, and get a green light to start filming, with no oversight or input from your studios and your execs.

A problem the Teals have is that they’ve built little cults of personality around themselves. They run “community surveys” of self-selecting participants from an already self-selected group,
their mailing lists. Then they gas themselves up, convincing themselves their wealthy electorates are desperate to pay more taxes so the money can be squandered by a government their local member is not part of and has no real say in.
I had an amazing chat with Robbin Laird discussing the uncomfortable questions Australia and our Western partners must ask ourselves as the old world order continues to break down #auspol#defencepolicy@DefenceConnect https://t.co/3XiPrnqYRW
