Basic facts: "Jessica D. Aber, former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, was found dead at age 43 on the morning of Saturday, March 22, at her home in Alexandria. Police responded to a wellness check around 9:18 a.m. on Beverley Drive and found her unresponsive. No foul play is suspected at this time, and the cause of death is pending an investigation by the medical examiner.

Aber, appointed by President Biden in 2021, stepped down earlier this year to allow for a successor under President Trump. Known for her work on terrorism, white-collar crime, gang violence, and leaks of classified information, she was widely respected for her leadership, legal skill, and commitment to justice.

Colleagues described her as a sharp, compassionate leader and mentor, dedicated to restoring trust in law enforcement and building community relationships. Her unexpected death has deeply impacted those who worked with her throughout her legal career."
