@WTScotsocial Sickening, this will not make any difference to this project, mindless idiots who just donโt get conservation.
Sentences are far too lenient, and the law too difficult to enforce.
@HumzaYousaf It should always have been part of a joint UK DRS scheme, to do Scotland separately was never feasible.
This has cost business tens/hundreds of million of pounds, it could so easily have been avoided.
@lornaslater@HumzaYousaf@RishiSunak Costs to develop systems (EPOS, Apps, accounts etc) and administer DRS ongoing are substantial, handling fee will not touch these costs.
DRS is needed but development costs to business in this period of high inflation will mean more cost to the consumer.
@MMcCulloch49@liberator1701@scottishgreens Fortunately milk containers are out of scope for DRS as they are not PET plastic, they are a different plastic (HDEP I think) so you continue as normal, and you donโt pay the deposit.
@martin_g_reid@lornaslater Makes no difference, an RPO needs to give someone 20p to get the empty back, to then take it to another RPO costs you time and money, CSL/Biffa will pick it up for free, plus they give you a handling fee for each item you return on top of your deposit.
@martin_g_reid@lornaslater Yes that is via manual return points, however those retailers have to return the empty articles to Circularity Scotland to get their deposits back, at which point CSL crush them, so there is no risk for multiple returns of the same article.
@martin_g_reid@lornaslater Most return points will be reverse vending machines that crush the article after registering it with Circularity Scotland, so they cannot be claimed again when crushed.
@STVNews DRS is a great idea, but it needs consistency across the UK nations.
Launching at different times and probably under different legislation is a nightmare for retailers, producers and consumers.
This is the real reason for the resistance we are now seeing.
