Some great chats with residents in #Heavitree yesterday morning with my team. Thanks to everyone who took the time to talk - I’m out most weekends knocking on doors to hear what people think across #Exeter.
This is the Britain I want us to build: government providing the foundations, local leaders providing the plan, and businesses providing the investment, jobs and opportunities.
All working towards that same goal: good growth in every postcode.

I said I’d do politics differently. So these are the facts:
The UK has seen the lowest number of summer small boat arrivals since 2020.
We’ve returned more than 80,000 people with no right to be here – and annual returns are at their highest level since 2016.
There are half the number of asylum seekers in hotels than there were last year.
And today, we go further by bringing the total number of deployed French officers tackling small boat crossings to nearly 1,050.
But I know that we can’t be complacent on this.
Smuggling gangs are constantly adapting their tactics, and we need to respond quickly and stay one step ahead of the criminals facilitating dangerous crossings.
The small boats crisis is a shared European challenge, and no country can solve it alone. Working with France and our international partners, we will restore order and control to our borders and prevent smugglers exploiting vulnerable migrants.
“It worked, boom.”
That’s Nigel Farage celebrating a Reform UK plot to break election law - by having a US company secretly pay for three influential political polls that benefitted the party.
Earlier in the investigation, Reform’s Head of Policy James Orr and senior advisor Dan Jukes arranged for a Verbatim reporter to pay for the polls through a US company. Orr and Jukes believed the firm was run by the reporter’s American father.
Mr Farage was filmed by undercover reporters from @Verbatim_Media as part of a year-long investigation that Channel 4 News has thoroughly checked and verified.
This meeting took place in his Clacton constituency in July - when Mr Farage was fighting a by-election he called after separate allegations about his finances.
Watch the full investigation on YouTube.
This scandal goes right to the top of Reform UK.
The sleaze now engulfing their Party isn’t going away – it’s getting worse.
Farage must co-operate with the authorities and urgently prove that his top team haven’t broken the law and secretly plotted to undermine our democracy.
We cannot risk turning back the page to Tory fiscal incompetence from 2010-24
❌Two recessions
❌Four credit rating downgrades
❌Inflation at 11.1%
❌Leaving the biggest trading block
❌£1.7tn increase in debt
❌Truss market crash
Never again.
The UK stands with Germany and our NATO allies following this reckless act of Russian aggression. Hybrid attacks like this will not weaken our resolve.
Our Armed Forces continue to defend against these threats and our support for Ukraine will not waver

We need a stronger Europe with Britain at its heart.
European Relations Minister @HFalconerMP attended the European Forum Alpbach @forumalpbach in Austria yesterday to discuss strengthening UK-EU ties. 🇬🇧🇪🇺
The new Shadow Chancellor backed Liz Truss to be PM and he was a Treasury Minister during the Tories disastrous 2022 mini budget which left families paying the price. Same old Tories, same old economic policies.
Thanks to residents in #StLeonards for having a chat on Friday evening as I delivered my latest newsletter about some of the work I do as your #ExeterMP! Dropping on all doormats over the next few weeks, if you haven’t had it already.
Plug-in solar is a simple, affordable way for households to save on their energy bills with clean, homegrown power.
From this summer, we’re giving more families the ability to do just that with easy-to-install technology.
New immigration stats show that the numbers of asylum seekers in hotels is down to 16k - falling 50% in a year.
Small boat crossings down 23% in the year to June.
Numbers waiting for initial decision down from almost 180k to 40k.
Seeing some of the footage, the horror of the flash flooding in #Nepal is almost incomprehensible.
My thoughts are with everyone affected, including with the families of British people currently missing.
'These are such distressing scenes. Such huge loss of life.'
Speaking to the media after confirming the UK will offer £5 million in emergency aid towards the floods in Nepal and Tibet, the PM vows to "be there for Nepal in their hour of need."

A little over two years into office and the asylum backlog is down, the number of asylum seekers in hotels is falling, illegal working arrests are at record levels, and deportations and returns are up markedly.
Small boats numbers are also now falling, but we are not complacent and there is more we must do. That is why I have boosted enforcement on the French beaches and overseas, and introduced new legislation to tackle the pull factors that draw people here through unsafe and illegal routes.
This government is restoring control at our border and fairness to the migration system.
