@elonmusk Morning Elon - delivery of starlink into Vanuatu is over 3 months. Any chance you can speak to the team to hurry this up. Be great to get operational soon.
Right now, electricity costs are the talk of Australia’s cost-of-living crisis.
Sure, slashing electricity costs would be great, but here’s what we’re missing: electricity isn’t just a bill, it’s a hidden cost baked into everything we buy or consume. It drives up refrigeration, harvesting, storage, and production costs across the board. And with electricity and gas prices shooting through the roof in Australia over the last five years, it’s no wonder the price of everyday items has followed suit.
Cost of living Problems - Energy:
- Electricity and Gas Costs: These have skyrocketed due to policy decisions and inflation, affecting refrigeration, storage, production, and more.
- Root Cause: Australia’s commitment to reducing emissions by 2030-2050 (e.g., Paris Agreement) has led to the abandonment of coal and gas-resources that we have in abundance. I’m not saying we shouldn’t aim to reduce these emissions, but let’s make it work for Australians.
- Virtue Signaling: The government prioritises global climate goals over affordable living, relying on questionable modeling and algorithms that don’t reflect Australia’s current situations.
Impact: Energy prices are out of control, hitting consumers and businesses hard.
Solutions:
- Leverage Our Resources:Australia has more resources per capita than any other country (coal, gas, etc.). We should use these strengths to lower energy costs rather than phasing them out prematurely.
- Reassess Global Commitments: Push back emission reduction targets that work in a sustainable sense for Australia(e.g., from 2050 to 2070) to ease the transition and prioritise affordability.
As a sovereign nation, Australia shouldn’t blindly follow international accords at the expense of its citizens.
Focus on what benefits Australians first, not climate mathematicians or global assumptions.
Outcome:
Lower electricity and gas prices reduce the cost of goods and production, making life more affordable for everyone.
