Don Carson just received copies of his latest book (3rd ed of 'Exegetical Fallacies'), & he gave me one when we went to lunch today. I've joked with him over the years that I've supplied plenty of material for a 3rd edition, but thankfully, I didn't show up in the book!
@drewdyck Lee was a good friend of mine too. We had lunch exactly a month before his death, and he was doing great and excited about the future. I miss him!
@BethMooreLPM Libertyville, IL ... just a few miles north of where Jalen Brunson played high school basketball. My son-in-law was on the coaching staff. To this day, Jalen always has time for him and for his boys (my grandsons) when he visits here in the summer. Go Knicks!
@dandarling Knicks guard Jalen Brunson is Stevenson High grad (Linconshire). My son-in-law was on the coaching staff. It's been fun to follow Jalen's career.
I have a student in an online master's degree class who requests a three-day extension for an assignment he has been unable to complete. His reason? The US-Iran conflict. He lives in the Middle East in harm's way. I will definitely give him the extension!
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
In God, whose word I praise--
in God I trust and am not afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me? (Ps. 56:3-4)
Derek Kidner: "Faith is seen here as a deliberate act, in defiance of one's emotional state."
John Stott: "For the essence of sin is man substituting himself for God, while the essence of salvation is God substituting himself for man" ('The Cross of Christ')
@RoryTyer Oh wow! I had no idea you were facing this. I pray for continued stamina and encouragement for you and Heather and your family. And I pray for healing for little Ruby. May you sense God's goodness and loyal love pursuing you as you walk through this valley.
It was a privilege to write an essay for The Carson Center on "Judah in the Gospel of Jesus." I offer it in honor of D. A. Carson, who has been a friend to my family and me over the past two decades.

The discovery of "the lost city" almost 100 years ago has enhanced our understanding of the Bible (specifically, the Old Testament). I briefly told the story in my weekly letter last week.
