It was a pleasure to work with members of the Showmen community, including Sheldon Chadwick (7th generation Showman, PhD student, and Founder and Chair of the Showman's Mental Health Awareness Charity), to tell their story.
Very proud that Revealing the Hidden Stories of the Showmen community won Permanent Exhibition of the Year at the Museums & Heritage Awards ahead of major organisations such as the Natural History Museum in London and the Museum of Science & Industry in Manchester.
It was a pleasure to speak at the MDM's Power of Place conference about our Showman's wagon reinterpretation project, which was co-curated with members of the Showmen community.
We're thrilled that our Showman’s wagon reinterpretation project has been highly commended at @MusDevMidlands Power of Place Awards! An inspiring conference showcasing the power of museums to deliver meaningful impact for the communities they serve.
We recently rescued a rare Postman's Hut from a garden in Cleobury Mortimer. From the late 19th until the mid-20th C., huts such as this were used as halfway stopping places for postmen, providing a place for them to rest and enjoy their lunch in between lengthy rounds.
Today's lectures were at the Birmingham School of Art. The building was designed by architect John Henry Chamberlain between 1882 and 1883 and opened in 1885. It is Grade I listed and a fine example of Venetian Gothic architecture.
We are thrilled to have been shortlisted for the #MusDevMidlands' Power of Place Inclusive Impact Award for our Showman's wagon reinterpretation project, which was co-curated with members of the Showmen community🎉 You can read more about our project here👇https://t.co/IcUtkr5Gut
Fascinating afternoon spent undertaking character appraisals of streets in Digbeth as part of @BCUGlobal's Conservation of the Historic Environment MA.
We're delighted to be awarded £4k from
@MusDevMidlands & @ace__london via the MDM Open Grant Programme🎉The funding will enable us to undertake a detailed inventory—the first step towards creating an open & accessible collections store & educational hub at the heart of our site.
We are delighted to host a vintage funfair for the duration of the school holidays here @AvoncroftMuseum. It's a perfect complement to our recently reinterpreted Showman's wagon, which tells the fascinating story of people who operate funfairs for a living.
Our new Showman's wagon exhibition, featuring first-hand accounts from the community, original artworks, hands-on interactives, previously hidden collections and archive material, is now open to visitors @AvoncroftMuseum
For #IMWD2025, we are celebrating ten women trailblazers with links to our buildings’ themes or periods. From Mary Macarthur, ‘the working-class woman’s hero’, to Lady Balfour, the pioneer of the organic farming movement. Explore their remarkable stories at Avoncroft this March.
Happy 30th birthday to the National Lottery from @AvoncroftMuseum. Their generous support earlier this year, via @HeritageFundUK, enabled us to transform our 16th century threshing barn from a void, static space into a multi-sensory experience for visitors.
We are delighted to have acquired a set of historic swing boats that originally belonged to a local showman named Tom Clarke. The boats are a fantastic addition to our collection, complementing Tom Clarke's living Wagon, which was donated to the Museum in 1986. #FairgroundHistory
On this #RemembranceSunday, we remember those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice. The memorial plaque pictured was originally displayed in the church hall of a former Chapel in Windsor Street, Bromsgrove. It commemorates local men who lost their lives in WWI.
Congratulations to @worcestermuseum's Worcester Museum and Art Gallery and their Curatorial Officer, Georgia Stevens, on their fantastic new exhibition: 'Atchin Tan – Travelling Through Art', which is on display until January 5th. https://t.co/qynzb4Aib8
