Unemployment rate: 3.6% in June 2022 vs. 4.1% in July 2026.
Prices remain elevated compared with pre-2021 levels even after the drop from 2022 peaks. Unemployment has been modestly higher in 2025–2026 than during the 2022 low.

I'm retired on SSI, and I look at prices, but years ago I was going to college nights, with 4 kids, trying to get a better position, I did wonder if I could pay for what was in my cart. A few times we had to put stuff back. I don't remember wondering if Jimmy Carter was walking down any aisles shopping for groceries wondering if he could afford peanut butter that week.
