So my latest #FM24 simulation has seen me run this tactic for Rangers on a season, and compare it vs how five other managers do when put in charge of the club
Clement, Kevin Muscat, Frank Lampard, Francesco Farioli...and Michael Beale
Results are certainly interesting
Further to this, our last 3 games XG against vs goals conceded
Motherwell - 0.76, 3 conceded
Hearts - 0.75, 2 conceded
Celtic - 1.04, 3 conceded
This comes from facing a veryhigh-performing finishing or, more commonly, suffering from poor goalkeeping or defensive errors
Before the games in the last seven days, Rohl had dropped points in eight games.
In those games, Rangers were only out-XG'd in two of those - the drab 0-0 draw at Hibs and the 2-2 Old Firm with Celtic at Ibrox (XG for the latter was skewed by late Celtic pen)
Whilst Danny Rohl has been far from perfect in recent games and faces a difficult summer if still in post, the effects of the Motherwell defeat - and the manner of it - caused the now familiar mental collapse of the on-field performance
THREAD 🧵
It is understandable that pressure has fallen on Danny Rohl, as it should for any manager who losses third in a row.
However, the underlying data on his Rangers dropped points shows the issues go way beyond him and more on to his players
On average in those eight games, Rangers out XG'd their opponents 2.34 to 1.26. In comparison, it was 0.87 to 0.9 in the games against Hearts and Celtic
@RFC_Michael_ For all of Walter’s greatness, one of his very few big mistakes of his second spell was not starting Novo in Manchester off the back of this and his form in the weeks prior
