@stuartpengs@jimthekeeper@GethinJones123 Syndicate I'm on have sneakily put in a few white birds this year and have decided on the same clause. Goes to a good cause I suppose ๐
@ErichtJohn Very very harsh weather on them John, the only saving grace being that it's not overly cold yet which should hopefully stop the condition being knocked off them
A throwback to the last sun we seen, 2 weeks ago! A rather anticlimactic end to the stag season with storm babet quashing our hopes of going out. Safety is paramount. However, 208 stags this season and the hill will get a much needed break over the next week or so! ๐ฅ
@hunter_vc @ErichtJohn I understand your point, this is the method of extraction we use here. It's still a perfectly clean carcass at the end of the process. What I do like is that. Posts like this are creating conversation amongst differing views
@aherneliz@wilkehagen1 I must admit, the stags thus time of year are not my cup of tea. I far order summer stag or hinds in the winter. Saying that, stags shot this time of year are sought after further afield in Europe
@wilkehagen1@aherneliz Anything not fit for human consumption is legally disposed of. We are trained hunters meaning we know the signs to look for in animals that have notifiable diseases etc
An older animal doesn't mean its poor eating
@COBarrowclough The coire in the photo is just shy of 3000ft, holds ptarmigan, grouse, dotterel, golden plover, A serious density of mountain hares etc. There will be grip work and re covering with machines done. It's about the only place on the estate with vast open peat.
@AdrianBenn14112 I agree and disagree in a sense. I'm under the impression that people are completely detached from where their food comes from. It's a gory photo, no denying it. However as government policies change in Scotland, this will become very much the norm. If not worse.
@Anthonykeatin14 Aye, there's definitely some deer density issues in places in the UK. unfortunately, in my opinion. Red deer seem to be used as the scapegoat
@GowanSsda I have used ponies in the past. Here, we have too large a cull to be using ponies sadly. 3 stag days per party is common. We'd need an army of pony men ๐คฃ
@aherneliz The stalker picks the animal. Predominantly we are culling mature stags, past their best unless something younger is ill/wounded or shows little potential. The youngest of those four stags in the back of the argo was 10, roughly. The oldest 14
