I RECENTLY HEARD A STATEMENT THAT SAIDβ¦βIN THE MORNING WHEN I WAKE UP, I ASK GOD TO GET IN MY HEAD BEFORE I DO.β BEST ADVICE EVER!!!
Start the day with God!
The biggest skill you can develop is the ability to reset fast. Bad conversation? Move on. Bad day? Start fresh tomorrow. Missed workout? Hit it the next day. Poor decision? Learn and adjust. You canβt control what happens to you, but you control how long you let it affect you.
Good things happen to good people. Finals in every single season. Congrats on leading @SunrisersEC to their third title, Adi Birrell π
And thanks for inspiring π
Had a conversation with someone the other day, and I used the Bulls as an example. They had a very simple game plan. I think they called it βrooi balβ and βblou balβ (but the Bulls supporters can correct me). Meaning one call meant keep it with the forwards, and the other to take it to the backs. They had 2 or 3 starter moves from set pieces, with 2 or 3 shape options for them. They had 3 or 4 line out calls, with maybe 2 options or variations on those calls.
It was simple, but deadly effective. Why?
Too many options or plays confuse players on what to call when - we see it every weekend, kick for touch from a penalty, and there is a 3min conference on what the call is - it should be instinctive based on the field position, game situation and momentum.
If you have 2 or 3 standard moves, your players are focused on the training field perfecting only 2 or 3, not 8 or 10. Once you start perfecting it, your trust in any play for every player shoots up 100%. You are comfortable in your role, and you know the guys next to you will do theirs. The game becomes instinctive with everyone on the same page.
Every team KNEW what the Bulls game plan was, but they were so damn good at it, they found it impossible to stop most of the time.
They built moves around their philosophy and what they relate to, picked and contracted the best players to execute it, and drilled it into their psyche day after day, week after week, month after month.
Players trusted it, and executed it with 100% conviction.
There is a reason the Boks are successful, forget the gimmicks Rassie comes up with like the midfield maul, or double pod line-out, that is not a game plan, that is innovative variations to play with the oppositionsβ minds.
Rugby must remain a simple game, the Bulls of the mid-2000βs understood this.
