I picked up a young man from lesson today he said, 'Sir, I really love this school.' I looked at him, he looked back and said, 'I really do.'
Great schools change lives.

Discus’ns with ldrs @GYCharter re teacher development
Consistent focus on literacy, rigour &routine. All critical for teaching to be its best
Pupils’ futures are never left to chance, neither will the quality of our teachers’ practice
Consistency isnt restrictive. Its liberating
Well done @GavinWilliamson this is the way forward for most subjects. Pupils learn from the teacher, the expert. Pupils do not learn from other pupils sitting in a group, this leads to lost learning. 👏
Research can't tell teachers what to do—classrooms are too complex for that ever to be likely. But research can identify "best bets" for improving practice, and the Great Teaching Toolkit Evidence Review is pretty much the state of the art in this regard: https://t.co/FJXMJ8NuxL
This week we are excited to begin welcoming back more pupils across our #FamilyOfAcademies Thank you to all our staff, parents, pupils & communities who have supported us whilst we have been open to key worker & vulnerable children over the past 13 weeks. #WorkingTogether#Trust
The obsession with 'live' lessons is a red herring. There'is no evidence live lessons are better than recorded (https://t.co/qXS8YBn7rf). Indeed, recorded can be more flexible & used again; feedback more personalised etc. The notion live lessons replicate the classroom is false.
What I love about the reaction to this comment is that it's like getting into a time machine back to 2005 and meeting all the educators there. Well hello, medieval education dudes, we come in peace but also with evidence, so hold onto your thinking hats
This tweet from the #MichaelaScience conference seems to have attracted the attention of a lot of progressive teachers.
Conceptual understanding emerges from knowing the idea’s constituent facts. You cannot understand what you don’t know. 1/
And there you see the power of drill.
I’ll say it again: Facts don’t prevent understanding.
It’s not: ‘drill and kill’...
It’s: ‘drill & thrill’.
7/7.
