@Ruesavatar I dated a 45 year old gynecologist as a 24 year old guy. Honestly one of the healthiest relationships I've ever had. I think a lot of it depends on whether people are looking for a specific age gap -- or if they just happened to have chemistry with someone older/younger
@BDaveWalters You better hope it's a windproof lighter in case they have the presence of mind to dump you on the floor. My Bics would damn sure fail me in the moment lol.
First post in forever. Saw #Frieiren trending. Thought: Dope! What a time to be alive that an anime like Frieren is the talk of the town -- even above #ONEPIECE
...Then I saw that trending above it was #Rapist. That whiplash tracks. Props to Stephanopoulos. Good question.
Learning curve aside, @theMysteryRanch Bridger 65 is the comfiest pack I've tested
Pro tip: @REI's Packmod straps+daisy chains>shock cord/gear loops. Need⬆️external storage? The bottom straps are short but running em thru the loops on a large Zoid cube buys ya 14 extra liters
And sorry if I have offended anyone. I name names. Abuse of freelance labor only thrives behind closed doors.
On the other hand, I highly encourage gear writers pitch @TheGearJunkie. They've been fantastic to work with
1) Waiting a month+ for response on pitches
2) No back-and-forth editing
3) $400 for regular reviews, with original photos. $800 for sponsored. Prompt pay.
4) Radio silence.
5) Thorough, dehumanizing shafting, whenever convenient.
But hey, you're just a freelance tool right?

I was then told that no kill fee would be provided --despite the delays in production being entirely due to radio silence and mismanagment. So, should you be thinking about writing for @MensJournal, here's what you can expect:

I said 50% would be reasonable. @MensJournal asked me to send along any additional work I'd done on the piece -- an ongoing assignment they now have someone else doing. I expressed discomfort at potentially providing further work towards an active project no longer my own.

In short...I was told to sit w/ my thumb up my ass until instructed on what to do, continued work as best as possible, had an $800 assignment in a series I was tapped for mistakenly given away, and wasn't notified of that fact until I chased it down. I asked about a kill fee.

Fun fact: If @MensJournal needed it sooner, I could have been given that list. Being forced to wait on #MensJournal to provide that info, by their own stipulation, and being met with radio silence is the reason for the later projected file date.

I highlight some prospective file dates, should they have a list for me within X amount of time.
@MensJournal responds: Oh, we accidentally assigned that article to someone else. "Probably will work out for the best," as we'd need it sooner.

<4 weeks out from publishing, I've still heard 0 about what products we'll be promoting. I send @MensJournal a brief of some framing ideas for the story & ask: So, any word from the client on what they want highlighted? Can't proceed yet.

Now @MensJournal has two stipulations: 1) @gerbergear would greenlight products they wanted to promote. 2) If I wanted to contact Gerber, I go through MJ's staff.
Fast forward to the last article. I was only ever given a publish date, months prior. No deadline.

After my first piece with @MensJournal, I was tapped for a #sponsoredcontent series: 3 articles promoting @gerbergear. Cool. I sat in on two meetings discussing the whole project. I provided outlines for products it would be sensible to promote. Standard stuff.

@sellamaleslie I never thought I'd see people so obsessed with the "who comes out on top" power dynamics or trying to read a man's entire personality over a water bottle.
It's a bottle. Get a decent one. Get to know him. Romance isn't a zero-sum game. It's fun. Enjoy life. Be kind.
Been out in the field a fair bit, so I didn't notice my last piece with @AJEnglish went live.
Basically, AI currently serves 3 roles in the #healthcare landscape. But those lines are blurring. The state of #AI in #medicine, and where it's headed:

Glad to see my first piece for @MensJournal live. I'll take any excuse to call hiking work.
More gear reviews to come, from your 7th fav #backpacker, 43rd fav #scienceCommunicator, and 27th fav bird watcher. (Fair play, @RyanFMandelbaum should be #1)
