Tegen alle regels in vroeg de raadsvoorzitter Eddy Moens (NVA) de politie om verkozen raadslid @KarimHassoun_79 manu militari te verwijderen. Het raadslid werd geïntimideerd, bedreigd en uiteindelijk verwijderd uit de raadzaal. Later kwam diezelfde voorzitter doodleuk zeggen dat het raadslid gelijk had, dat hij geen enkel recht had om hem te verwijderen en bood hij zijn verontschuldigingen aan.

Alsof zoiets zomaar kan. Alsof het normaal is om een volksvertegenwoordiger die gewoon zijn werk doet als een crimineel te behandelen, en dat dan af te doen met een simpel "oeps, sorry". Zulke praktijken horen thuis in dictaturen, in landen waar men macht misbruikt zonder enige verantwoording, maar niet in België.

Een verontschuldiging volstaat hier absoluut niet. Dit was geen vergissing, dit was machtsmisbruik. De enige gepaste consequentie is dat deze raadsvoorzitter onmiddellijk zijn ontslag indient. In een democratie geldt de rechtsstaat voor iedereen, ook – en vooral – voor wie de raad voorzit.

For the first time in over 20 years, Israel has deployed tanks in the West Bank, after expelling 40,000 Palestinians from refugee camps.

This is a prelude to full annexation, and makes a mockery of the ceasefire agreement that Israel continues to violate.
