@jaketapper Germans entered Łódź on Sept 8, 1939. The area was annexed into the Third Reich. From the first days of occupation, Jews suffered from severe repressions. The ghetto was set up in April 1940 when Polish government was in exile in France. Our online lesson: https://t.co/f8G5zCEw23

This is a picture of Jews baking matzah in secret in the Lodz ghetto in 1943. Even when Jews were enslaved, they found ways to be free. This -- not just the original story of the Exodus -- is the miracle we celebrate on Passover. Chag Sameach to all.

A sombre place to visit is Radegast Station in Łódź, used during WW2 to transport approx 200,000 Jews from the Litzmannstadt Ghetto to extermination camps. The Ghetto, the 2nd largest in Poland at the time, ‘contained’ over 180,000 people in an area of 4.13 km2. Most perished.
What incredible news.
