That history of getting back up is proof that you’re stronger than you think.
Be a little kinder to yourself. The resilience that carried you through before is still with you now
You’ve already gotten through every tough day so far.
When things feel heavy, it helps to remember how much you’ve already survived. There were days that shook you, problems that felt too big, and moments you weren’t sure you’d make it. And still, you kept going.
You said it perfectly in the shower. Then again on the walk home. Then once more, right before you walked in. Nobody saw any of it. It all happened in the quiet of your own head. These slides are from Chapter 1 of The Psychology of Rehearsal. Link in bio.
That quiet practice run in your head is something almost everyone does.
This is an excerpt from Chapter 1 of The Psychology of Rehearsal: Why We Practice Conversations in Our Heads.

There’s a point where rehearsing a difficult conversation stops making you prepared and starts making you uncertain.
The first few mental run-throughs usually clarify what you want to say.
Then your mind starts asking:
“What if they respond differently?”
So you rehearse that version.
Then another possibility appears.
You rehearse that one too.
Eventually, you’re spending more effort preparing for hypothetical reactions than preparing your own message.
That shift is worth noticing.
Sometimes we keep checking for something to change outside, when what we really need is a moment away from everything.
Put your phone down.
Breathe.
Let your mind settle.
