Some Black experiences/traditions are simply regional. And it does not invalidate your Blackness because it’s not a practice/tradition you grew up with or know about. And it doesn’t mean it’s not an authentic Black experience either.

I had an african american studies teacher. he was mixed. always talking about how he hates white people. someone said "isnt your momma white?!" he said "yes i love my momma but fuck her too" and was deadass. He was a really good teacher. very passionate.
A movie has never felt more familiar to me than Sinners did with this scene. This is how I’ve been hearing stories told my whole life. The cadence, the shorthands, just everything about this performance was incredibly real. He needs to leave this awards season with SOMETHING.
