I am a little miffed I only got to blog the weakest episode of #franxx, at least up to ep5. Pan-chan's coverage is great though, so I guess I'll live 😢

#franxx is moving around & changing a lot, & that's good. It worked when it was all sexual (sub)text, now it still works w/ the alien menace from Zero Two dialed up. As long as the show keeps moving, it'll keep working, hopefully.

Him getting the news that he IS getting an anime at the end of the episode, though, I really like. He may be being petty, but that ups the ante nicely #imosae

I mean, I like the ambition. Striving to be her equal is great. But just assuming she'll wait for your dumb ass is rude. He's lucky she heard him—though I'll admit her blushing face is hella cute #imosae

Itsuki doesn't want to date Nayu b/c, if they got married, he'd be the supporting character? What a petty reason. Grow up, kid. If she's worth it, be the supporting character. Also that's no reason you can't date her now! #imosae ep11

@Zaiden_RC What? A Witbier should have coriander for sure, as well as the orange peel, generally dried Curaçao orange peel. It's traditional for the style, and delicious when done well. Try one! (And no, it ain't heat-spicy.)

But I still wish the season had ended with more than just questions. If no second season happens, it'll truly feel like we've been robbed. 5/5

I'd still suggest Houseki no Kuni to any anime fan, even one episode is worth it to see this art style animated w/ CGI (if your animation is going to slip into uncanny valley anyway, might as well have alien characters designed w/ that eerie similarity in mind) 4/5

It's also extremely languid, which is either a pro or a con depending on your opinion. 3/5

What it does less well is tell a story that ends, at least in part, w/ the season. This first season was transparently grasping for a second, there was no climax of any kind, it just ended w/ Phos asking questions that probably shoulda been asked mid-season. 2/5

Just finished Houseki no Kuni. My thoughts:

This series does several big things right, including: worldbuilding, atmosphere, an art style that fits CGI animation REALLY well, and character growth, most notably w/ Phos. 1/5
