Secessionist one clan enclave is getting slowly exposed! The Jerusalem Post seems to be paying close attention to Somalia and actually doing its homework. Unfortunately for them, the areas in question are firmly unionist regions with a deep commitment to Somali unity. Still, credit where it’s due for at least acknowledging and writing about it. Bypassing these regions won’t be simple at all the strongest and most entrenched unionist tribes are there, politically aware, socially rooted, and not easily swayed or pressured. Any attempt to go around them will face serious resistance and reality checks on the ground.
When people lose faith and conscience, they become worse than animals. A 60-year-old Somali father was burned alive in Lower #Shabellada_hose heartbreaking incident showing how our humanity has faded. Tribal, hatred, clan and divisions have brought us to this painful level.
🚨 This photo best exemplifies the horror UAE-backed RSF militias are inflicting on the Sudanese people, today.
Footage emerging from the city of Al Fashir surely ranks amongst the worst examples of human rights abuses I have witnessed in my nearly two decades covering war crimes and atrocities for international media outlets.
Women and children rounded up and raped in front of their husbands, fathers and brothers, before being shot or hacked to death and tossed into mass graves.
More than 2,000 Sudanese civilians have been killed this way during the past week alone.
They are being murdered by UAE-backed forces and UK-sold weapons. This is a proxy war to seize control of the African country’s land and resources.
Yet the world is silent!
Some Somalilanders have a really schizophrenic relationship to (southern) Somalia/Mogadishu. On the one hand, they blame all the evils on "Somalia" and try hard to distinguish themselves from "Somalia" even short of claiming to be "ethnically" different. Some would say "we never were part of Somalia" and that people living in "Somalia" had a different culture than those of "Somaliland" (often using different colonial administrations to justify the differences). On the other hand, however, Somalilanders need exactly the "evil Somalia" to make their own polity shine bright. Somaliland is distinguished, according to this narrative, by "not being Somalia (aka: war, terrorism, piracy....)." This is a cheap way of glossing over the very real and persistent problems existing in Somaliland regarding abuse of power by the dominant Isaaq clan and the use of violence against the opposition, even to the degree of attacking people in the vast eastern regions (between Buuhoodle and Badhan) militarily for not supporting Somaliland's independence. The final leap of schizophrenia is: while officially pretending to "not be like Somalia", many Somalilanders use a fake "southern identity" (related to a fake story of having run away from imagined horrors in the south) in order to claim asylum in the global north. When they then managed to enter the system as “poor refugees” from “Somalia” they continue their long-distance agitation as Somalilanders from abroad.
