When you hear someone talk about https://t.co/KAFDOmHaBT, you usually expect them to be talking about baseball pitchers. But https://t.co/KAFDOmHaBT is invaluable for softball pitchers as well. Madison and her had Chris reached out to me after Madi (D1 caliber SB player) went through HAGL (Humeral Avulsion Glenohumeral Ligament) surgery last August and has not been able to regain her D1 caliber throwing mechanics.
With HAGL surgery it is common to incur Anterior capsule tightness, which refers to the shortening and stiffening of the connective tissue at the front of a joint, most commonly the shoulder or hip. In the shoulder, this condition restricts the arm's ability to rotate outward (external rotation) or reach backward (extension), often leading to a "pinching" sensation and contributing to broader issues like Frozen Shoulder.
HAGL is an injury to the inferior glenohumeral ligament consisting of a anterior band - between 2 and 4 o'clock and a posterior Band - between 7 and 9 o'clock. In Madi's case the anterior band had to be reattached, which makes sense her incurring anterior capsule tightness afterwards.
As you can see in the first image of Madi throwing afterwards, she could not get backwards extension of her throwing arm, instead it was being pulled to the side.
After extensive work with https://t.co/KAFDOmHaBT routines and testing with the https://t.co/KAFDOmHaBT dynamometer (2nd pic) her arm strength went from 53.9 to 67.8 and shoulder balance was 1.02 in just over a week. The 3rd pic is her arm action after just a week of extensive rehab.
Watch this space, the goal is to have Madi back in D1 form on the mound in May/June timeframe.
I had a conversation with a Power 4 college coach who’s been doing this for 25+ years.
We were talking about the mentality of high school players during the recruiting process.
Here’s what he told me:
“What these kids don’t realize is…
I don’t care how many followers you have.
I don’t care how many home runs you hit in travel ball.
I don’t care how many offers you have.
I don’t care about your ranking.
I don’t care how hard you can hit a ball.
I don’t care about your metrics.
The only thing I care about is this:
Are you going to produce in between those white lines when we play this season?”
Then he said something else that hit:
“They’ve been so protected that the first time they fail, they quit… or they transfer.”
And here’s the part that matters.
The biggest development mistake I see?
Players don’t plan for failure.
They plan for success.
They visualize success.
They expect success.
But they don’t prepare for 0-4.
They don’t prepare for getting booed.
They don’t prepare for sitting the bench.
They don’t prepare for struggling for 3 weeks.
So when it happens — and it will — they panic.
Instead of executing a pre-made plan, they try to create one while emotional.
That never works.
Failure is coming.
The question is:
Did you already decide how you’re going to handle it?
Bailey Demick, home over the holidays from Ohio Northern U., working with the @108_Performance BP Vest at @stlyard! Bailey was able to immediately feel the vest and adjusted the very first swing and she was able to maintain her coil and hinge throughtout the swings...watch how fast her swing was when she took the bands off!
In Bailey's words:
Using the vest really helped me stay focused on keeping my front shoulder down and not pull off. The resistance made me work harder and helped reinforce the right muscle memory, which I could really feel in my swing afterwards.
Come check us out at @stlyard, or reach out to us how you can start training wih the @108_Performance BP Vest!
I would love to announce I will continuing my academics and athletic career At Graceland university
I would love to thank God for putting me on this journey and giving me my family, friends, coaches that have helped me along the way.I want to thank Coaches Payne, Wenter, Yorges
Elite Velocity is using an AI-powered tool (skeleton) that visualizes movement by overlaying a wireframe skeleton onto a video of an athlete. It allows users to analyze form by pinpointing areas for improvement, comparing performances, tracking joint angles, and ensuring correct posture, which helps in injury prevention and performance enhancement. Come check us out at @StlYard to see this in action or DM me and I will demonstrate how we can use your current video to do the same thing remotely.
The Yard would like to welcome Cora Bassett to the staff!! Cora comes to us from the University of Indiana!
